I recently received this e-mail offer:
Bring A Friend To Amarra!
You love music - we know you do because you already own Amarra! And since already you know how great music sounds with Amarra, we're giving you the chance to share the experience with your friends and loved ones. Through this offer, you can open their ears to the world of Amarra by giving them their very own copy of the world's most beautiful sounding music player.
Click here for an additional copy Amarra: $59.99
Click here for an additional copy of Amarra Hifi: $24.99
Right now, you can purchase an additional full-function copy of Amarra or Amarra Hifi that you can give to your spouse or your best friend (hey...maybe that's even the same person!). Or, maybe you'd just like to add another copy of Amarra to a second computer in your house, on the road, or in your office. Either way, now is the perfect time to give the gift of Amarra. Why wait for a holiday?!
Let us know how you're doing with Amarra, we'd love to hear from you; write to us at sales@sonicstudio.com. And, don't forget to 'Like' us on Facebook!
This is sad shit.
Follow Ups:
I find myself using Vuplayer or Foobar with WASAPI for listening purposes.
I guess that I am skeptical enough not to spend money on a program like this when free media players proliferate the net. Even VLC sounds terrific with my FLAC collection. How much better could this one be?
Enlighten me please!
Thank you.

About 2 or 3 years ago, a few here including myself questioned just what exactly Amarra does that's all that difference from standard "bit perfect". Remember the goobledygook Sonic Studios came up with in that ridiculous white paper trying to explain the "complex mathematics" this program apparently did?
With the advent of BitPerfect, Decibel, Pure Music, etc... There's really nothing special about Amarra; just variation of features. Nobody could ever explain in what way this software was worth $1000.
It's good to see market forces cutting out the BS to truly reflect what products are truly worth although it took a couple years. Likewise, my feeling is that other items of questionable pseudo-scientific benefits will suffer the same fate (think obscene expensive cables, Synergistic Tranquility Base, etc...)
such words as "pseudo-scientific"
Can you even define what you mean by such?
Since you haven't tried Amarra, making a statement relating to anything about it is highly questionable.
"Asylums with doors open wide,
Where people had paid to see inside,
For entertainment they watch his body twist
Behind his eyes he says, 'I still exist.'"
It seems to me that it is not the amount you spent of your free will that matters here.
Rather, it is how many had taken up the $1500 spend based on your enthusiastic reviews.
As I have said to you a number of times, it is the longer assessments in audio that matters, and not shorter term exposure to a new sonic signature.
Sad indeed not to mention the Like us on Facebook tag. Really get sick of that tag for everything. Makes me dislike FB even more. (if that is possible)
It is how many had taken up the $995 spend based on your enthusiastic reviews that affects readers here.
My review was merely a starting point Fred. People were able to try the program on a trial basis and determine for themselves if it was worth purchasing.

very subjective
In your opinion how much pleasure must one get to justify spending $1,000?
If it was the best thing going at the time was it foolish to buy it if he got pleasure from it? Even if it was a piece of crap if he enjoyed it who are you to judge how foolish it was?
It is a personal decision. Calling it foolish projects your value system on others and I don't think any of us has the right to do that when it comes to how we choose to spend our disposable income.

My first (IBM) PC cost me ~$4000. I guess I was foolish back then. ;-)
I was one of those who called the pricing "foolish". It was not necessary to compare $1000 with some subjective amount of "pleasure". I considered it foolish because inevitably the price would come down and/or a competitor would appear that would have an inexpensive product that provided similar or greater pleasure. And furthermore, this would happen soon, not the situation where one might spend thousands on a computer which gradually becomes obsolete over several years. In reaching my conclusion I also looked at what I had paid for audio software that cost roughly the same (or less) than the original price of Amarra. These programs contained an excellent sounding player as well as considerable additional functionality (e.g. iZotope RX Advanced). I also considered the availability of free player software for PCs that performed well (e.g. cPlay).
My comments are not directed at those inmates who think nothing about blowing $1000 on a night's pleasure. However, were I to find myself in such a situation I can think of ways to blow this money that would provide more pleasure.

That says it all.

If only this was true :)
Spent $995. There was nothing wrong with the review at the time. In fact, Amarra 2.4.1 sounds pretty darn good. Not as good as Audirvana Plus Direct Mode / Integer for Lion. Also, I think the Amarra interface is poor.

Of course you know better than that....and so do I.

it's only the dac that matters, not computer, not software.
Everthing matters.
I don't know about others here but my purchase decisions are not tremendously influenced by you or your reviews of various audio software. I simply appreciate the information you provide and as a grown up, it is up to me how I spend my money.
My main complaint with Amarra early on was their high price and very restrictive and archaic software protection scheme requiring a USB security dongle. The dongle alone was enough to steer me away and research other products. I believe they now use software based security on most of their software and have lowered their prices. But in my opinion, that's too little too late. Other more progressive and agile companies have taken a lot of their potential market share.
Just my 2-cents worth and thanks for the updates.
After feeling being ripped off, what's understandable when looking at a 1500$?? price erosion in shortest time - you still do marketing for them.
You'll never learn.
(P.S: I'll skip referencing and commenting our earlier discussions about the very same subject.)

Do you Stax cans have a 5 pin connector? If so how can you connect to a 1/4 or 3/8 headphone jack?
Do they make an adaptor?

"Do you Stax cans have a 5 pin connector"
Yes.
"If so how can you connect to a 1/4 or 3/8 headphone jack?"
I'm afraid you can't. There is no way to energize the phones with standard jacks.
If it helps at all, I think the offer is for existing customers only.
I paid $350 for a 48MB (yes MEGAbyte) MP3 player in 1995.
But I was the first person to own one.
.
Early adopters such as yourself usually end up right where you're at.... out a bunch of money with buyer's remorse; but if you had waited you would have missed out on however much enjoyment you got out of it.
You've pissed away a lot more than that on how many other indulgences? A few bottles of really nice wine? A few dinners at overpriced restaurants? The upgrade from economy to business class? A few days in the nicer hotel?
Forget about it. You can afford it.
