...Now admittedly, Patterson is not the second coming of governors, but the guy was thrust into a thankless position in just about the worst time frame anyone could possibly imagine.
While he hasn't reinvented the governor's office, neither has he done anything to discredit it.
So along comes Obama and blasts this guy off the map???!!!
Who the fuck does he think he is?
And that's a pretty low blow cheap shot toward a guy who hasn't done anything wrong.

Obama is president, and he's also the head of the Democratic Party. The mission of the Democratic Party is to win elections. When an important state like New York is on the line and there's a weak candidate who won't get out of the way, it's his job to get involved. This guy is an idiot who polls in the teens. The Dems could run a stiff in New York and win an election. This guy is trying his hardest to fuck that up.

Obama is concerned about this guy retaining New York, and, AFTER Patterson says he is going to run, President Obama publicly belittles the guy? And that enhances his chances of retaining the sear, how exactly? If we accept the fact that he is going to run, then why in the world would Obama give fodder to the guy's potential Republican opposition? Let's say he makes it out of a primary, what television commercials do you think the Republican opponents will be running? Obama's critisms. Not smart. This is one of those things you handle in private, and if that does not persuade him to step aside, then you swallow it.Regardless of New York City's Mayor, the State of New York is voting for Obama come hell or high water, and there is nothing that Patterson is going to do to change that. There is no reason for Obama to get involved.

Keep trying, NewDewey.
One of these days you will come up with something smart to argue with me about.
I'm actually looking forward to that.

Coming from the guy who believes that the Republican Party is run by a bunch of nuns, that's rich.

Would you have political parties seek to be "morally right" and lose elections? And would you argue for one moment that Republicans stand more on principles than Democrats? All I can see in your posts is what comes from total commitment to one party's rhetoric.
...and to a one party system...

I *like* the loudness button!
It's not all that unusual for the WH to come out in favor of a particular candidate in a state office, and it's probably not any more unusual for the WH to work behind the scenes in key state elections. But this one seemed to be somehow more along the line of laying out who gets to be the head of the car companies, which of course is also a Presidential function.

Ah the smell of fresh racism in the air... move along people there is nothing to see here...
...he has every right to inject his informed opinion about the electability of Officials in his own Party running for re-election. President Obama is obviously concerned about the possibility of a once popular cross-dressing Republican mayor running for the gubernatorial Office while other reactionary garbage clinging to his skirt-tails are swept in with him. Politics is about winning seats with the best candidates; winning Parties don't run un-winnable candidates and Patterson isn't polling well even by Conservative standards.

;O)
That statement is only half-true.......... Politics is about winning seats, period. How good or bad the man holding that seat is completely immaterial.
Wow, with eight years of GWB you sure like to live up to that little gem of yours!

BTW, I've never actually seen an "Obamaton" except as a manifestation of the nightmare world imagined by hardline Cons, but since you're a Rushbot I'm very familiar with the predictable nature of your your mechanical moves, Zeke! ;O)

...to preserve his Party's power, and he was a progressive in the area of race relations (one of the last progressive Republicans in fact), so yes, I say bully for him too.
Patterson's problems in running for Governor again aren't specific to race or disability, but rather how he is perceived by the voters in New York following Elliot Spitzer and having his own marital relations difficulties. It's disingenuous for GOP talking point puppets and their own symbolic black leader to scream about Obama acting "racist" or a bully when he's merely demonstrating the appropriate political savvy in trying to preserve the Democratic power base in New York.

and the answer is; he has no fucking business. There is no doubt the Governorship of NY is not an easy one and, since this position answers to the residents of NY then the future of the Governorship is their business alone. To take advantage of one's position of authority to denigrate someone merely for political partisan reasons is especially disgraceful.
...The POTUS Vs. a lame duck governor???Hardly seems like a fair faight.
Strikes me as something of a bully move.
Frankly I'm disgusted with Obama's actions in this matter.
