genes or poor parenting?
Either way, wouldn't a decent, God-fearing, Family Values Mom realize it's time to stay home and spend a tad more time with her children?
Follow Ups:
I'm a drug addict and alcoholic. I have a bipolar kid and a wife who is a compulsive shopper. Why didn't they pick me?

Lol you've got me cracking up at my desk! Frihed for Pres!!
I thought the same thing about Bush - party like an animal till I'm 40, stop, and become Pres.

They had difficulty getting her to breathe when she was born. She was fine until she was three, and then shit went downhill. Bad genes?
I don't know your situation but I'm assuming you don't have FOUR kids with problems? And I assume that your wife wouldn't be seeking the most challenging job on the planet if your child was several months old?
My point wasn't about the cause of these problems but rather the seeming indifference this Mother has to her own children's problems.
I worked for years with children with severe problems.
You and your family have my best wishes and please, please understand I meant no affront to them or anyone else's family.
I truly am sorry and apologize if you felt it was insulting, Bruce.
Foot In Mouth School of Higher Learning......matter of fact I'm gonna guess you're working on a PHD.......when will you learn to keep your BIG mouth shut!!!!!! Dumbass!!!!
it's okay if it's a Republican, huh?
;O)
It's become very clear he didn't vet her properly and/or didn't care about the family situation. It's become more obvious every day Palin just isn't in the right situation to be a VP candidate.
as you cared for a family with all the Palin's problems, that we know from your sensitive, touchy-feelie online personality.
Fact: Sarah cares most about Sarah. Beauty queen's (even failed ones) aren't known for their small egos.
;^D
You're just in attack mode because Sarah has stolen America's heart and it's a real threat to the election outcome. That's all it is.
That and you're a little asshole.
You didn't answer the question.
Your wife would disappear, regularly from home, if you had four such special needs kids, and you'd have no problem?
Quit lying.
I know I did.
It was my own damn decision, not my mommy's.
At what age are kids allowed to make decisions that aren't mommy and daddy's fault?
Did you excuse Clinton's behavior by blaming his momma?
Here it is: Sarah seems to have an unusually problem-laden family. Some problems may indeed by genetic (Down's Syndrome) but when three other kids exhibit what serious anti-social, dangerous, and serious misbehavior, one must look at the parenting, or lack of it.
Governor Palin, in the face of her very troubled children, has shown NO recognition of the fact that indeed HER parenting may be at fault.
I don't know what my teenage drinking has to do with the actions of a woman in her forties seeking the second highest office in the land.
"but when three other kids exhibit what serious anti-social, dangerous, and serious misbehavior, one must look at the parenting, or lack of it."
First, post a link relative to Palin's drug addicted kids. Second, you mean all the problems that the inner city kids are experiencing such as drugs, truency, violent behavior, is due to a lack of parenting? I thought it was societal. You mean, you liberals advocate throwing money at what is essentially a parenting, or lack thereof, problem? Now I know I do not want you in charge of the purse strings.
Barefoot, pregnant, or both?

Drug use? You guys daily here say recreational drug use is okay.
Pregnant. Oh dear God a human being who done went and had sex. Horrific. Suck the baby out and make it right.
I'm asuming you think her son who joined the military has some kind of problem because he joined the military????????

I guess I just get a bit defensive. And it breaks my heart.
But back to Palin bashing.....
Our child, thank our very lucky stars, was born fine and is fine though she had a very difficult birth and the pregnancy was chancy. We knew our chances going in, being both quite old, and it turned out well. I empathize and sympathize with all parents that were less fortunate.
I appreciate that.
Yup, our hero Charles Darwin had a kid with Down's Syndrome.
Poor genes? Poor parenting?
I'd lay off the Down's, man. If you claim to be pro-choice, then leave her reproductive choice the fuck alone, eh?
I'd say both you and Bruce misread my post, neglecting to see the point but, if you felt it was insulting to parents of Down's Syndrome kids, perhaps it was ambiguous.
Again, it isn't the fact that she's the mother of a child with these problems but rather her reaction: let someone else take care of the child.

It's OK... Must get mighty lonely staying home while your significant other brings home the bacon.

I'm curious about something. A week or so ago you ragged on someone based on a story they posted, I think it was the first report that the gov't was going to take over Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac, though it may have been something else. I could search, but hopefully you'll save me the time. That story was published in the Wall St. Journal, but despite an attempt to point this out to you, I didn't see an acknowledgment that the story was indeed true; and even if the person who posted it was a liberal weenie or some such, that didn't make the story not true.
You may have posted something acknowledging this which I may have missed. If so, then my apologies. Otherwise, I'm not sure why you had such disdain for the story; perhaps you could share that with us?
On this...well, I think what the Enquirer is doing is a bit much...but I thought the same of how they shadowed John Edwards around. I'm not sure which politician I care for less, but...did you dismiss the Enquirer as a 'whack-rag' when it did the expose on Edwards?
Just asking.
FWIW I think Thunders' thread on Palin earlier today, and the discussion between Pablo & darkmobeius, were some of the best discussions on the subject of her qualifications, or lack thereof, that I've seen on this board. If she is indeed being mostly hidden away until she's ready for prime time, that's something that goes beyond blogshit on sites like Kos.
However, at this point in time I doubt very much the Enquirer, regardless of how we choose to view it, would print one word they couldn't back up in a court of law. And that court would be hosting the biggest trial since O.J. Which was when the Enquirer first started to gain some credibility, wasn't it?
I believe it appeared in the Houston Chronicle (citing the Wash. Post?).
I'm not sure what I was objecting to... Liquor may have been involved!
As far as the credibility of the Enquirer, umm... You can't be serious.
I should mention that I don't necessarily approve of the Palin pick; however, if you object to my vulgarity, please review some of the scummy filth that our resident nut-jobs have been posting about her.
Nice to hear from you, J... I almost feel like you're the "angel" on my shoulder! I don't know who the guy is on my other shoulder, but I don't think he agrees with you.

Okay, cool...I didn't see it. It just seemed like a strangely harsh response to a story that wasn't exactly hard to believe, on its face.
> As far as the credibility of the Enquirer, umm... You can't be serious.
Totally serious. They want to sell newspapers, not spend money to defend libel suits. I put a decent amount of stock in the credibility of a source, and there is more likely than not objective truth even in the output of extremely sketchy sources. I believe most could agree that the Enquirer is, at best, a sleazy supermarket tabloid who on many levels should be ashamed of themselves for what they do on many occasions...but, either the story is true, or it isn't. Ultimately that's the most important aspect of the discussion. Believe me, I don't want to give credence--even if it only means anything to me, and nobody else--to sources I don't like or don't assign much credibility to, or whatever. But if what they print can be shown to be factual, then that's the most important thing.
This doesn't mean I have any interest in scraping the bottom of the barrel for shady sources just because they may have an interesting take or a piece of merit. But I didn't go looking for the Enquirer story, and if Draz hadn't posted the link, someone else would've. This may be distasteful, but it is certainly newsworthy, even if that's not a good thing. Taken as a whole, I find the entire matter unfortunate.
This campaign was shaping up as a much higher concern than what it's turned into. I try to spend as little time as I can on it, especially since I'm not voting for either Obama or McCain. I've been wondering about what it means that the government has taken over AIG. I'm fairly confident that we don't have the sort of society where the worst-case scenarios of the government getting involved in private business will come to pass; but it's disturbing nonetheless. But the argument about how free markets can actually be, and arguments for and against, I find to be quite interesting.
Especially at the extremes, where you find Rand-worshiper types who tend to get a bit, shall we say, spicy: this guy has written in publications like the Washington Times (which should convey, just as the connotation, or the stigma, that the Enquirer carries, as far as its own burdens, that this writer is not a squishy liberal):
should be the title of her autobio.
Or, "Family Second, Pork First."
Unbuttoned jeans and parenting so creepy you can only numb the effects by getting wasted. Thank God she's not my Mom.. Too bad these people fuck and pass their genes into the gene pool. Where's my hedge clippers.
So, what can you do? Here you are, a helpless soul, a helpless piece of flesh amid all this cruel, cruel machinery and terrible, heartless men. All you can do is turn away from the filth, and hopefully start to build something new someday. -Phil Ochs
