"Stravinsky Le Sacre Du Printemps - Ernest Ansermet & L'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande 24/192 DVD Audio Stereo Disc"
Not as good as I had hoped, and I have the London LL mono (bare breast version).
In fact, while it is stereo and I have '192' lit up in red on the Disk Spinner as it plays, most of the sound is coming from the left speaker even when Cello and Bass are playing with some sound mid to mid right.
Not so on the "Stravinsky conducts the Firebird Ballet (Complete) - Igor Stravinsky Columbia Symphony Orchestra" DVD-Audio disk which is great. Certainly better than the Columbia LP, as I recall it over the years.
This does not surprise as I have heard MANY 4 track reel to reel Columbia recordings that sucked on LP but were stunning on 7 1/2 ips 4 track tape.
Turns out the Petrushka is really a just a second Rite of Spring with Petrushka on the label. But they are sending me the correct disk by express mail with all of the appropriate apologies.
Steinberg - Pittsburgh is always a treat for me. Even if not from the original 35MM recording.
This one is the only one I've had time to even listen to a little bit of and I am VERY happy with it.
Hope they find ALL of the Steinberg Command Classic Tapes even if only the 4 track commercial releases.
Their recent work on this series has been excellent indeed.
My first serious listen to the work. The first movt was surprisingly substantial and I love the recurring main theme, with its upward shwoosh. The early bittersweet clarinet solo caught my ear as well.
So much to explore.
