on my face. What a celebration of sound. Love the low reeds and cymbals.

Ansermet's Firebird, also spectacular. I'd rank his Rite a notch below his Petruskha and Firebird, though still excellent.
But the best of Ansermet's Stravinsky on record that I've heard, and a true sonic spectacular, is his Chant du Rossignol.
I listened to the Petruschka again today (it really makes me smile) and when I put it back on the shelf there was a forgotten Firebird; Flying Birdstein and the NYPO paired with P.I.s Romeo and Juliet.
Odd, thought I, but when it began to play (very nice 6 Eye MS1604) Stravinsky's unusually strong use of beautiful melody made sense of the combination.
I have the Reference Recordings but am now prowling for a high quality Ansermet Firebird to round out the Ballet Trifecta.
