There was a long, long discussion on the old SA-CD.net site between Teresa and Robert van Bahr - I don't know if you saw it. Teresa was always complaining that there was never enough bass on BIS recordings, while Robert kept replying that his recordings captured the amount of bass that was there in the performance, no more, no less. Finally though, he said that Teresa HAD to listen to Litton's BIS Rite of Spring on SACD and then let him know if there wasn't enough bass. Teresa did indeed listen to it and gave the recording a thumbs up for the bass! (Later she found out that the master was PCM rather than DSD, and suddenly didn't think so highly of it anymore - LOL!)BTW, I don't have that particular recording, but all the other Litton BIS recordings I've heard from Bergen have been excellent IMHO.
p.s.: There's quite a broad range of "bass drum depth" in the various recordings of the Rite of Spring - for me, it's not really the critical factor in determining my favorite recordings of this work. One recording that does have a really powerful bass drum (and people are probably getting tired of my saying this!) is the Fruhbeck de Burgos recording on Collins Classics - CD quality only though.
EDIT: BTW, you should take Ivan303 up on his offer (in his post below).

As far as bass drum goes, personally I was disappointed in the BIS Debussy La Mer/Bridge "The Sea" release because their bass drum was so dry and dead.
Let's face it, such toys hardly figure when the gods are revealing their tunes to mere mortals such as Debussy and Bridge, but when it comes to visceral impact, nothing is better than a deep, resounding bass drum that makes the rafters shake.

I've got a lot of "administrative" stuff going on right now, but I'll try to get another playback in to check if that bass drum sounds similarly dry on my system. (It will be multi-channel, and that could make a difference. . . so. . . FWIW.)

Yes, in the history of conducting, Lan Shui will be ranked right up there with AT! And, at least for me, that's not an entirely humorous statement. ;-)
BTW, I love the inclusion of Glazunov's La Mer on this album too!
