I read a review of a release of his music in the latest Fanfare. Very intriguing - Icelandic composer who lived with his Jewish wife in Germany during the Nazis. He believed that Wagner has mucked up the old Norse tales and wrote his own sagas, which are decidedly post-Sibelian. One of his works uses a set of tuned rocks....Bis has released quite a series of his music.
Anyone know his stuff? Comments? Recommendations?

...and have not continued to explore more. I have BIS-730 (containing the Saga Symphony) and BIS-830 (including Geysir and other works). Haven't listened to these in a long time but my memory of them is that they are freely tonal works with long stretches of chromatic brooding interspersed with huge percussive disruptions. Very craggy sounding. If a huge snow-topped mountain could sound, it would sound like something from Leifs.
Didn't they bill the Saga Symphony as "the loudest symphony ever written." I liked it but haven't heard it in a long time. I've been meaning to dig it out and listen again, but haven't gotten to it.
By a BUNCH!
BIS recorded a lot of Liefs but it just doesn't do it for me.
