All of his CDs are excellent.
I have a fairly large collection of Tsuyoshi Yamamoto Trio CDs. There are several brand new reissues, all on Blu-Spec CD for $27.50 on eBay. Some of his older titles are also available on regular CD and SACD. His most famous album is "Misty." Other great old ones are "Live At The Misty", "Midnight Sugar" and "Blues For Tea." The reissues I have are "Summertime", "Midnight Sun" and "Stardust." "Speak Low" is an older reissue and is quite nice. I have "Life" and "Daahoud" on order from Japan.
Tsuyoshi Yamamoto would also play with other famous Japanese groups. "Black Orpheus", on which he played with the Isao Suzuki Trio, is very good.
There is a brand new LP collection that includes "Misty." I can't recall the other two albums that are included in the collection.
Whenever Possible, I try to buy from Japanese eBay seller Down Beat. He is by far the quickest shipper. He also sells reusable CD and SHM SACD bags.
The reissues are usually not that large so I would grab what I could when they are available. If you have an SACD player, I would recommend the "Misty" SACD which sounds about as good as an old 200 gram LP that came out several years ago.
Piano music is very popular in Japan. There used to be a radio station that played only Bill Evans recordings.
Ok Duck, Thanks for the input. Keep me posted on what you think of Life and Daahoud. Tweaker
Life and Daahoud are part of an East Wind Masterpiece series of reissues. They were shipped here from Japan on 2/2 so they should arrive later this month. The first set of East Wind reissues was about 25 years ago. They were gold CDs in fancy packaging. This series looks like regular CDs in plain packaging. Other ones that look good from this series are To Duke With Love and Summer Knows, both by Art Farmer and At The Village Vanguard with the Great Jazz Trio.
It sure does. Had this in my collection for a while now and like it a lot. A fine effort by the late, great Art Farmer. Got to see him once live. Listen to the new T. Yamamoto's yet?? Tweaker
Life and Daahoud both arrived today. Life features TY with Sam Jones and Billy Higgins. It's all standards except Billysam Blues. I would say it's a middle quality CD, not as good as the first set of East Wind reissues. Daahoud is about the same and features the entire TY Trio. If you like the way he plays, these are great examples, both originally recorded in 1976. Both are available on eBay. Art Farmer Live - All I can picture is a room full of smoke!
Thanks Duck, I guess I'll start with Life. You might want to sample "The Bust" by Grant Levin who I will be seeing tonight live in San Francisco. Also piano. Tweaker
