Nice group
Follow Ups:
I saw Ortiz's band at the Detroit Jazz Festival this year. Very dense, intense music that had a good number of audience members fleeing the scene. I felt I understood what was happening, but this music was a bit too academic for even me, which is really saying something. It probably would have grown on me more in time. This band here is more accessible, I think.

As I don't like discordant classical music.
But that is just me.
It sounded like if Elliott Carter had a jazz band. My son and I dug it, but it took real effort to grasp what was going on, even with considerable experience in difficult music. The world is still a long way from embracing this stuff en masse. I don't think I've ever seen more audience members get up and walk away as I did from this performance. Then again, I've seen lots of people walk out of Vijay Iyer performances, and I think his bands are among the best today, and far more accessible than anything I've heard from Ortiz. Some folks just can't cope with the new.

Nice. His date with Esperanza Spalding - Juno is also nice
Look for his date Alameda with antoine roney. Orbiting is good too. Anotherr good date is Chriistoph Siegrist Into the Blue.
My most recent purchase.
