I just read the Stereophile review of the Covent Garden release of an early 60's Die Walkure, Solti conducting, with Vickers as Siegmund. I heard Vickers live in his role in the early 70s, and I couldn't understand why he and Solti didn't collaborate, as they were the leading heroic tenor and the leading heroic conductor of the time. I always thought it was a shame, and wondered if it was record company politics. Much later I read Vickers' biography and found how deeply Vickers ( a man of strong opinions!) disliked Solti. The one commercial recording they made together that I know of was the Aida with Price, which is a heckuva performance, actually. So, now that I know about this recording, I just have to hear it. I had no idea before I read the review that such a thing even existed. A bit pricey, but soon, very soon.
Follow Ups:
Amazon dropped the price a bit from when I first looked. What price artistic glory, right? Richard Lehnert gave this a rave review, not only for Vickers and Solti but the rest of the cast as well.
.
Hope it's good!

No way I'd pay *that* kinda money on any Solti.
