Composers you like and where to find them. I'm counting on diversity of opinions.
Thanks

I don't consider him a Minimalist. He combines Eastern Orthodox chant with string orchestra with a bit of prepared piano thrown into the mix. Gil Shaham's recording of Tabula Rasa is far and away one of the finest performances of that composition.....one of Part's favorites.

.... anything we like from the beginning of serialism through today? Because really that's all "post-expressionism" means -- after expressionism. That begins with serialism.
But the notion of post-expressionism really means absolutely nothing stylistically. There are composers today writing very good totally melodic music and others writing abrasive incoherent music and others writing minimalist noodling music. All of it is "post-expressionism".
If all you want is a list of composers whose music we like written in the past 50 years, why not just say that?
"Life without music is a mistake" (Nietzsche)
I do not mind a little atonality. I just have not been able to find much that falls outside of the other groups you mention.
Be gentle, now.

Well, if you like melodic, in the tradition of real symphonies and concertos, by a living composer, my first recommendation would be German composer Thomas Schmidt-Kowalski. I like his orchestral music.
Here is a sextet.
"Life without music is a mistake" (Nietzsche)
Ridiculous. Sort of like a painter making bad copies of Renoir.
And some would say that the music of Ligeti and Messiaen is ridiculous.
The point was, post-expressionism is meaningless as a term. Anything written in the past 50 years is post-expressionism. From the lyrical style of romantic era music to the collection of sound effects of the avant garde.
And BTW -- whether you like the piece or not, a lot of people consider Schmidt-Kowalski quite a good composer -- just as there are those who consider Messiaen a good composer.

Most especially the first.
E.g. Metropolis Symphony
The BMOP catalog has a lot of interesting and enjoyable music. I especially liked this one by Lisa Bielawa.
...what they are, much less who. To me, being "post-something" is an indication that it probably nothing distinctive in itself.
Robert Beaser, John Corigliano, Jennifer Higdon, Aaron Jay Kernis, Michael Torke, Joan Tower, Melinda Wagner.
that one piece that has the glorious Ravelian shimmerings....Imprinted on Simon Rattle's, Love de Waart's on Nonesuch and now there's a spanking new SACD from MTT>

I just heard the new MTT/SF Symphony recording of Adam's Harmoniahlaire played at the CA Audio show; on Wilson Alexandrias (I think) driven by some humongous VTL monoblocks. Simply Stunning - both the music and the recording!!!
Sounds as if he has actual talent, unlike most of the others.
Recorded on several easily available labels.
