I have found anything classical with hot babes on the cover usually sucks as far as music goes. The more babes, the worse the music. So BOND is REALLY crap... IMO.
This does not carry over to Jazz or Rock.
You have to have some legit examples! ;-)
What do you mean, Chris? I looked at their pictures, and they seem TOTALLY legit to me. Check out those elegant lines! ;)
Maybe their performance will improve?
That's a ridiculous statement, IMO. The way someone looks has no relationship to the person's musicianship. The pictures say something about how they are being marketed, not about their musical skills.
I'm sure anybody can come up with lists of attractive and unattractive performers in any musical genre, and each list will have some good and bad musicians among its members.
Myra Hess. You won't be helping any career, but, you will certainly enjoy great playing.

And not that much better...............
Start with the Diabellis.
Avoid the Schubert Bb though.

Christina Pluhar,
Leader of L’Arpeggiata
Her specialities are guitars and lutes. Ironically, it was Veronika Skuplik, the violinist who brought this group to my attention after Veronika played with Apollo’s Fire.

For me, the award for the plainest Jane among the great musicians goes to Wanda Landowska. Just to give equal billing to the men, I always thought Mischa Elman as an older man looked like a silly little round toad, completely unable to bring off that distinguished look that many male musicians manage even when over 70. However, I was surprised to see he was very good looking when young. Can't say the same for the young Ms. Landowska, alas.
Uchida fits your description but I would not recommend her playing.
Mozart sonatas - Lili Kraus (not really ugly but not a pretty young thing when most of her recordings were done)
piano concerti too - orchestras are not at her level though on most recordings
Mozart sonatas - Ingrid Haebler
Mozart piano concerti 20,24 - Clara Haskil
Spanish music done by de Larrocha

What a disrespectful discussion

Not entirely, IMHO. Stage performers, including classical musicians, have always been conscious of their appearance as a way to cultivate their celebrity. Stokowski kept that flowing mane of hair that gave him a distinguished look to a very advanced age, as well as a highly-developed sense of showmanship. Anyone who walks onto a stage has to expect their appearance to be put in issue, not necessarily how good looking they are, but how they carry themselves for sure. In fact, charisma and stage presence is far more effective than mere good looks, IMO. Alas, many musicians utterly lack both, and audiences know it.
However, the marketers who attempt to promote beautiful young women are making a big mistake, IMO. Charisma (and talent, of course) win the day. The industry of displaying the bodies of beautiful women does more than well enough without needing classical musicians.

Very true, and marketing based on appearance can be a serious negative. When I see a violin disc that features some scantily clad babe on the cover, I usually assume that she is at best a mediocre talent. I may glance at the cover, sometimes more than once :-), but I am very unlikely to buy the CD. And unfortunately, some of them actually ARE very good violinists, who are selling themselves short by allowing their labels to market them so crassly.
But, really, how often do you see that? Most pictures of these musicians are done in the best of taste. Of course, there's always an exception or two:
.
Yes, and people buy Playboy, too. This kind of purchase has nothing to do with musical taste, obviously. But the existence of people who buy JUST for the pretty person on the cover has nothing to do with your claim that musical hotties are untalented. Do you want to reconsider that?
I have the disc that includes pictures from this session. The amazing thing is that she could wear baggy jeans and a sweatshirt and she'd still sell disks because she's a great player.
I thought I'd lower the bar for good taste even lower, ahem....
