Return to Planar Speaker Asylum
Thanks all for responding to the amp poll I posted last week. Thought it worthwhile and of some interest to summarise results of the poll. So here we go.
A total of 75 systems were polled. systems because some folks have more than a single system so in those instance, the amp driving both the MGs are included. What's very apparent is that there is a wide range of electronics used in driving these MGs. In fact almost 35% of the polled amps appear only once. The most popular amp was rather predictable as the results show as follows. I wonder if the 72 or so inmates who posted represents the core of the most frequent visitor to this forum. Maybe not since I did not note some regulars' entry. OK, Let's Rock:-

Follow Ups:
with my maggie 1.6QR's and MGCC1.
In the previous amp poll I said I used a NAD 370 integrated for my little MGMC1's maggies. You asked what you use with your "maggies" so I didn't want to answer for my reference system which are VMPS RM40's (hybrid ribbon system). But I use a Spectron Musician II for my RM40s.

The Musical Fidelity vote had a "Me Too". I guess that means two votes for them.
See what you mean. Careless of me. Shall fix that.
It was on the same line as my Krell KSA-80. Unless you are only counting main speaker channels.
Thanks for pointing that out. I did intend to make this poll a stere setup poll but guess I did not say so. If it's ok, I'll leave it because if I'm to make the change mid-stream, I'll probably end up having to ask all to respond to see if they have other amps driving HT application. Personally, besides the ARC, I drive them with a marantz HT amp for HT purposes.
Thanks all the same for participating.
Bryston now reads 10
MacCormack 1
BAT 1

Classe 3.I'll try to do this if any further update but the problem is list is not complete.
Was wondering if there was anyway to categorize or group the listing by certain characteristics? Knowing who / how many people are using what is a good starting point, but it’s a big list! Listening to most /all of them would be quite a challenge. For me, the most daunting task since getting my 3.6’s has been to find an amp that mates well. I started with a list of amps that I got surfing through the threads and since I’m a newbie, I’ve been trying to listen to as many as possible before deciding. Initially…it was kinda fun, but the last couple of “hi-end” shops that I’ve gone to were less than friendly to my “unsophisticated” ears.
Is there a way some way of describing /rating the lists so that someone like myself would know which ones to focus on...without listening to each?

Hmm... This is something to think about. Another thread maybe.
Someone else wants to compile this?
Fun reading the results. I thought I was the only one who still had working SWTPC tigers.
ATI 1505. Seems to be a widespread belief that ATI's are overly bright. I think it soulds totally neutral to me with strong tight bass. I'm happy with my ATI/MMG/MGCC combo.
It WAS interesting. Another avenue would be surveying the MUG Shots page. With all the systems listed, an amp list could be gathered. Only one problem. It would probably be horribly out of date due to the virus..UPGRADEITIS.
Just how many Planer Asylum people are there out there anyway?????
Hell, the list itself is about a year old. If anyone is going to do a synapsis. I may be persuaded into doing another arduous update. Oddly enough, that's why I originally made the list. That is someone wanted such a poll result. He wanted to know how many owned what amp & which preamp & what cables, etc. I comprised the list & told him to go to town & I'd post it. He didn't.
