I gotta admit I was not familiar with that piece but I found a live recording on youtube and it is absolutely stunning...thanks for the recommendation : )Will have to find a good recording of it.
Also I would throw my Apogee Duetta's in the ring of competitors when it comes to strings, pure magic. Also cymbals which seem to float, shimmer, and cascade as if the room has suddenly gone dark and a spotlight's highlighting them.

thanks for the tip! I ordered one off Amazon last week.
I was instantly drawn to it due to it's 1920's bluesy/jazz influence, not sure if anyone else caught that vibe.
In any event a great piece!
Hey G Squared, thanks for the tip! nice piece, kind'a reminds me of the Schindlers List soundtrack. Classic is not my main meal but I have a nice collection of the usual suspects. Will definitely be adding this one, spent a whole evening researching which version to buy.
Checked out the 2 you recommended but ended up going with the version by Hugh Bean and the New Philharmonia Orchestra, already liked the piece but this version nailed it for me.
Thanks again!
I'll check it out.

Listening to it now on Qobuz in 88/24.
