Anyone seen the advertisement for the 'invisible maggie system' in stereophile this month? [may 2007] Was having a quick flip through at my library the other day.. Apparently Magnepan has come out with a planar sub!!! Looks like my SVS Ultra will soon be on the way out!!!
Follow Ups:
They also said that it's not a "real" sub. More or less it's for augmentation.
Also I believe that it is meant to be used with the wall hanging HT Maggies. If you took a 1.6QR, cut the bass driver in half, put them side by side, add some glass for the top and the bottom..I think you would have that bass panel coffee table deal..
Oh dear.. I didn't know that. As it is, i'm getting a pretty good pairing between my SVS Ultra and 1.6QRs. But.. I still wish I had a planar sub, wouldn't mind 20.1 like bass! Looks like it'll be quite a long period of dreaming still, then..
for $800 I'd opt to wait until I have another $200 and get a used set of 1.6's; or a good box sub with 'punch'.Now if they'd done this with the push-pull finese of the 20 series I'd be interested.

Yep, it reads like it is only to augment the bass deficient on wall speakers. The 1.6 will likely go as deep or deeper on it's own. Doesn't look this sub was designed to mate with larger planars. However, it might be something for magnepan to pursue.....

Is there a link?

Magnepan also introduced a new freestanding woofer for their smallest home theater/ plasma wall mounted speakers (the MGMC1). Left and right MGMC1s cost only $750/pr and the woofer adds only $800 unless you want a special finish. The MGMC1s can also be mounted flush with the wall and made to swing out automatically into playing position with the touch of a button. Note the nice table in the picture under the wall mounted MGMC1. That’s the new woofer. The MGMC1s have been criticized for an overly thin sound, but not anymore.
