Return to Planar Speaker Asylum
74.76.55.14
Laminated oak stands, attached at the same place the stock stands are, the top brace is not attached to the speaker, just to the vertical sides, its very rigid and drastically improved the dynamics, bass is much tighter and more punchy. hoveland caps and aircore inducter in the xover box, this was a more minor improvement but i was able to remove the resistor i found i had to have before the Mod's, treble is less harsh, thanks to all for your help.

It’s great that you’ve addressed both structural and electrical shortcomings. I’m a little puzzled by the photos and the descriptions though. When I read your reply to RickyM, I envisioned three 1” (roughly – more like ¾”) thick boards “sandwiching” (the center board need only be ripped narrower) each side. The photos tell a different story. How are the sides attached to the panels? What would you estimate to be your cost for the wood?
Sorry, my fault, described another way, the vertical sides are 3 1*3 peices of red oak sandwiched together, so the finished depth is 2.75" or 1/4 more than the speaker itself, it has a routered channel allowing the speaker to set in alittle, these pieces are not attached to the sides of the speakers, just held tight by the braces both top and bottom, Red oak set me back $200 but i couldnt find enough Ash locally ( would have been $100).

What kind of wood did you use?
Its all red oak, The vertical sides are 3 1*3 , laminated, as are the feet, the box is 1/2 inch red oak.
what's the difference between soild oak vs laminated? Are you saying there's a veneer on top of the oak?
"Live life as if you'll die tomorrow... -Gandhi
Learn life as if you'll live forever..."
nope, it just means that i couldnt find a solid piece thick enough so i glued 3 pieces together to get the thickness i needed (had to be slightly wider the the 2.5" speaker)
Laminated in this case meaning solid pieces glued together.
