I need to dig up the pics of my old Type III wagon.
Mine was the second to last version with 1600 and twin carbs.
It ran great with a stock engine and extractors.
Over time I gradually shaved it, lowered it and painted it matt black LOL.
When I sold it it had no bumper bars, no side mouldings, no door handles, lowered to ridiculousness with razor blade 135 Michelins on the front and 205 on the back, Moon disc hubcaps.
I should have kept it - it was a gem.
Cheers,

And the rear axles had universals at both ends - so it didn't have the "tuck-under" suspension like earlier VWs and Fiats did.

But my experience with a hot one was that you could get the tail out.
Early type 3's did have swing axles.
And I - think - my hot one did.

66 was the first year for the IRS rear end.
swapped ends on Mulholland, near Malibu. Ended up in the bushes. We put a compensator bar onto the car, the next day.

....some similarities between the VW type 3 fastback and the MGB GT?
my thought; not exactly but the type 3 does have some similarities in the rear tail-light body work. The overall shape is similar, except to account for one being a front engined roadster and the other a rear engined V-dub.
Things like chrome trim are more extravigant on the MG while the VW is more economical in all aspects. As we had come to expect from that company at the time.

...but if I had to do it all over again I'd still buy an MGB as my first car.

reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.
...they were cool.

Hopefully the new owner won't miss the missing heat exchangers, and the heat they provided.
We had a '71 Squareback when our kids were little, it was a great car at the time.
