Although I gave up smoking over 32 years ago, I sometimes miss my pipes filled with Orient Express tobacco. And when Cuban cigars become available, they will be most tempting.

Keep your Cuban cigars. Give me a Padron 1964 Anniversary Maduro any day.

Back when money was rolling in I paid that for a box of 25 of my favorites.
I said "give me", not "I'll buy". :)
But seriously, scroll down to the Corona Maduro, at $10.20. At six inches long, it's just the right size cigar for me, and for my occasional smokes it's within budget.
And in places like Montreal and London, I've seen plenty of Cuban cigars going for the equivalent of $30 USD.

Back in 1981 I eeded sinus surgery, surgeon wouldn't do it unless I didn't smoke for 2mths before and after. So I just stopped
Back then it was common to have one's own incinerator, and I burned the lot in that. Camels, Gauloise, roll-your own and the pipe tobacco. No one complained!
I didn't give it up, I quit.
Still hooked but. Get the itch when near someone smoking.

Never smoked anything since high school (cigarettes) until a friend gave me a cigar at my house warming back in '03; got hooked all over again (cigars) until '06. However the only reason I quit was due to the cost; high end cigars are expensive (the ones I smoked individually cost more than a pack of cigarettes).
Biggest difference being I actually 'enjoyed' smoking cigars whereas I absolutely hated smoking cigarettes.
Nicaraguan and Dominican cigars can be as good or better than anything produced in Cuba. Go to a good specialty store (look for one that sells briar pipes and tobacco as well as cigars), and try a My Father, Rocky Patel, Tatuaje, Alec Bradley, or google a list of best cigars.
unique taste, very popular. They're distinct in the sense that Patel doesn't grow them, he (and his associates) hand pick different leaves and blend them into their own. He makes the rounds, not unusual to spot him in cigar shops across the country. Again, very popular, reasonably priced and definitely a great smoke.
Your recommendation of Fighting Cock cigars has blessed me, thanks for that.
I also have some "My Father" but they are too weak, FC for getting hit hard that you can't get off your chair.
you're quite welcome, what are they going for per stick these days?
I don't even remember, I've been smoking these cigars that cost 50 cents, bought about 50 of them. Machine rolled, good for when you mow the lawn and need a taste.FC are high end in my books. I appreciate that,

As the matter of fact I have some Dominicans and Nicaraguan in my cigar collections as well.
The Dominican cigars are very surprising to say the least, however, given the right moment I still prefer the Cuban cigars. Perhaps this has to do with the flavor and the proper preparation, aging and rolling of the tobacco leaves.

We're very lucky as I get to buy them locally in our smoke shop. And sometimes I go there after work in the shop's smoking room to smoke a Cohiba with porter wine before heading home.

Most cigars sold as Cohibas, in Canada and Mexico amd even Cuba, are fakes. And of the real Cubans, others, like Ramon Allones amd Bolivar, are more highly regarded these days.
Some are. But not these one as I bought them from a friend who goes to Cuba annually to purchased them from a legit govt. cohiba dealer.
If that's not enough I also have a friend who owns a smoke shop who sells Cuban and other S. America's import cigars. They better be legit because the cops are frequent in his smoking room to indulge a few cohibas or so.

I got them in Canada when I smoked. I am not a cigar affinato so didn't notice that big a difference over other expensive cigars available here.
They are, and always have been, available in Switzerland.
I used to smoke one once in a while over there. I think it's illegal to bring them into the U.S.
:)
Can't remember a time cuban cigars were illegal anywhere except the USA.
thanks Obama
was announced last week that one can bring cigars and rum for personal consumption

Actually, he just removed the $100 previous limit on Rum and cigars. Now you can bring back as much as you want for personal consumption.
