I should have reached out to members here for recommendations, but I think I'll be ok. Expecting delivery of a Panasonic Microwave. I wanted to get a Samsung but they don't make anything less than 1 cubic foot.
I've seen Microwaves for as low as $38, they can't really last can they? I anticipate probably replacing this one too in a few years. Everything is made like crap nowadays. I read the reviews of this one on Amazon, some were good some were bad and especially I have to say it is almost like Russian Roulette with appliances nowadays. Isn't anything made good and made to last anymore? I anticipate I made the right choice at least get a few years out of this one.
This microwave supposedly has a new technology, they all have widgets and trinkets now backed by all kinds of patents, it is all nonsense to me.
I don't usually use the microwave for anything other than warming leftovers up sometimes, however my Emerson of 9 years started making horrible noises and I'll just toss it on the curb at this point.
Sorry for the rant.

Heavy built like a tank, packed with features. Besides standard micro it also has grill, combination heat, and convection oven settings. I don't really use it for anything other than simple micro re-heating but it's nice to know that the other stuff is in there, I guess.Still running onwards like a Sherman tank...

My car was made by Daewoo. Something about Korean made equipment nowadays, it used to be Japan. I think Chinese quality will tick up in the future.
In fact, I also use a Panasonic home theater and Bluray.
The inverter technology means it is lightweight. I had one go after five years. However, I like them so much, I replaced it with the newer model. Previously, I had a GE space saver go as well that blew it's heavy transformer.
These items cost $100. Pretty amazing. Pretty much tells us a LOT about how our economy is structured. I think keeping them cool is the key to longevity.
Thanks. I got it. Warmed up some water, made 3 slices of warmed up pizza at 70%, the interesting thing also about inverter technology is it doesn't pulse, shutting the wave on and off, it remains constant, maybe it is buyers high or not but I like it at the 0 day. I will see how long it lasts, 5 years is ok with me :)
I suspect there are 3 or maybe 4 'Prime' manufacturers of Microwave things. Panasonic might be one. Maybe Hitatachi?
Too much is never enough
I had one which came with the house, a built-in jobber that finally kild over about 8 months ago. The home warranty company I use sent a contractor out to survey it. This guy (actually a bright kid in his 20s) removed, opened and tinkered around inside it. After a few minutes he identified the problem, through it back in the hole and cranked it up. A few seconds later it shuts down. He goes "I'm gonna have to take it back to the shop for extensive evaluation". My reply was " are you kidding me? " You can see it's old and there probably aren't any parts out there anymore, can't you just write it off as a lost (meaning I'd get a brand new one at no charge)?" He says sorry, I can't do that.
So now I'm getting a bit pissed, I continued: "so you're telling me, you've just spent 1-2 manhours assessing this thing, and you're going to take it back to the shop to spend another few manhours for a obsolete chunk of metal?
Obviously this kid was used to dealing with assholes and simply replied "sorry sir, those are the rules, it'll take a couple of weeks".Well the wife wasn't happy either and realizing how much we needed a microwave sent me out to buy a smaller, cheaper unit. I decided I'd go to Walmart because let's face it, they'll return anything even after you've used it. I grabbed a medium sized Huntington beach for I think $50.
Long story short, A couple weeks later I get a call from my warranty service stating a new $400 unit (a Kenmore Elite) will be installed (free of charge of course).
My wife convinced me not to return the HB saying we'll just give it away to one of her refugee families later (needless to say it's still here).
Hell to me a microwave is a microwave, power is the key.

GL,
Appliance Parts Warehouse or a store just LIKE it can source lots of parts you wound't think were available.
I could have bought an entire new power board for my nuke, but declined. It was the one that came with the house and lasted maybe 12 to 15 years. Sheer Luck. This was for a 'builders model' nuke which means near-bottom of line.
Some parts are 'exchange' while others are 'outright'.

You're absolutely right on the Russian Roulette, and it's hard to tell these days from the brand on the outside who actually made it. Bought this house a year ago, and the previous owners had remodeled the kitchen about 4 years ago with all new GE branded appliances. I doubt GE made all of them, if any of them (I know the microwave was made by Samsung). In the first 3 months after moving in, the microwave died completely, the dishwasher had to have a new $150 control board, the refrigerator's internal water tank (for the door dispenser) ruptured, and the main heating coil in the oven went out. Thank goodness for a home warranty.I guess I'm just old fashioned and remember the days when a kitchen appliance usually lasted well beyond the time you decided to just get rid of it to remodel. Kind of strange that the reliability and longevity of automobiles have improved dramatically in the last 30 years, and appliances have gone in the exact opposite direction....
