I don't know how many, if any of you, have seen the pictures of the terrible flooding in West Virginia. The worst of the flooding was in Greenbrier Country around the towns of Rupert and Rainelle.
That is the area where my wife and I were raised and went to school. Our families still live there. My mother and brothers live in Rupert and the house across the street from my mother was washed away.
Many are dead. Many are missing. Roads and bridges washed out. Houses swept away. It is truly a disaster. When I see the pictures of the carnage it breaks my heart. I know those places so well.
Since that is where we were born and raised we certainly fell a strong desire to help, but alas, there is nothing that we can do............

My most sincere condolences! Truly tragic...
It's an unimaginable disaster. My thoughts and prayers are with you and everyone else affected.
Happy listening,

I have been following the news. This same thing happened twice about 10-15 years ago
in the southern counties down near Bluefield where my wife and I grew up. The
communities where we grew up were wiped out. Not much left there these days.
I saw where Richwood was flooded out. I remember going through Richwood when
we used to go camping at Summit lake and fish the Cranberry river. Absolutely
beautiful country.
This is all so sad. Especially considering that many of the affected didn't have much to
begin with. My thought are with them.
Take care,
Bill
I went through Hurricane Sandy, about 3 blocks from me entire strips of homes were gone into the ocean. I remember sitting without power for 7 days, and knowing many people who lost everything they had. There were unidentified bodies being stacked that weren't reported on in the news as well.
The neighborhoods have recovered, but it was about 3 years or so to make it right again.
bullethead, I can relate to that.
one of my wife's best friends moved back to Jersey to a place about 5 blocks from the water. She moved back there and got in her new place ONE WEEK before Sandy hit. She lost everything. :-(
The devastation in WV is not being reported as widely as a hurricane would be, but is just as bad. My mother said that they got about 12" rain in fewer than 24 hours. All that rain that falls on the mountains rushes down into the narrow valley and the small stream becomes a raging torrent. Also, she said, that the winds were extremely strong!
Having lived on the gulf coast and now on the east coast in "Hampton roads", Virginia I have had the unpleasant experience of being in a few hurricanes so I can certainly relate to your dealing with hurricanes.
One of the problems in dealing with the floods up there in the hills is that the area is sparsely populated and one can only access the nearest town via narrow winding country roads. Many of those roads were washed out. That makes it almost impossible for rescue workers and other officials to account for everyone and anyone stranded may be in a remote area and nobody may know where they are.
Anyway, the whole thing is so sad. Especially the loss of life, particularly those who lost children to the floods. There's just not any words....................
