I can happily say my own mattress is over 25 years old. I bought it new back in May of 1990. (I moved to a new apartment and bought new stuff for it. So I distinctly remember when I bought it.)
My beloved mattress is a two sided affair. So with recently wearing through a good portion of the surface of one side, I just went back to the other side.
So I would hazard to guess I can get another ten years out of my lump of dust mite encrusted mattress.
And yes it IS true, I only change the sheets twice a year, if needed...*
LOL
I have looked for a new mattress now and then, however I despise the white fuzzy sort of crap ALL new mattress tops are covered in. Like it is made/designed on purpose to go bad in five years..
The day they go back to a smooth satin material I will rejoice, and maybe actually buy a new mattress.
If the white fuzzy crap for a surface is forever, I guess I may never buy a new mattress.. ever again.
I would rather sleep in my dust mite infested worn out slab.
How about you.
(*PS the sheet comment was a JOKE. A JOKE...)

I apply food grade diametrious earth to under the mattress and box spring with a small dust applicator. Works great and safe for humans and pets, too.http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_0_6?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=diametrious+earth&sprefix=diamet%2Caps%2C178

My neighbor bought a new mattress last Tuesday and woke up Thanksgiving day with her body covered in red itchy welts. Turns out the mattress company delivers their mattresses on the same truck that they pick up old ones on and she got free bed bugs with her new mattress.
We just got a new mattress and they took the old one with them after bagging it in the plastic the new one came in.

Delivery dudes cut off the wrapping and took it with them.
Wouldn't accept anything less than that.
Your friend should end up with a free mattress and the seller
should pick up the cost of debugging.

She's entirely too passive. I talked to her this afternoon and she said that she just got her money back and didn't want anything to do with that company. She said that the company denied that could happen. She then added that "I don't know how they could deny it. They took our old one along with them when they delivered that infested mattress." She said that she also found complaints online for the same issue with that company. Nice!
as the bullies and sh!theads feed upon that.
Good for her for getting her money back!

I was thinking about new mattresses, next year.
Not that I recall ever changing sheets. Isn't that what wives are for?

Buy one.. talk about politically incorrect...
...my wife says she needs a wife to do all this stuff.

But, funny. I tried that one on my sig other. For some reason, she didn't laugh. No sense of humor.

every-time you move on a feather pillow or a normal matt you stir up the dust which you inhale. Sleep tight.
Our mattresses and pillows are all encased in dust mite proof covers my wife bought.. Dust mites are not supposed to be able to penetrate the covers.
.
what you breath. Got kids? What are they breathing?
my mattress is about 10 years old.
I change my sheets with every shower.
how long between showers? maybe 3 months (LOL!)
kidding!
cheers!
