found this Samsung Galaxy tab 3 with 7" screen for $69.00 at the Navy Exchange on base (Best Buy has the same I think for $79), also came with free 10g micro card.
Charging it now as we speak.
So what's the big deal? Signs of the time, I remember purchasing my Samsung Galaxy TAB 10.1 GT-P7500 (10" screen) when they were relatively new back in 2012; got it for a 'deal' at $585. It's still going strong but now I only use it for my music server.
This new one will be just for kicks.
Follow Ups:
SWMBO started dropping hints that "all her friends had tablets" and that - without her very own tablet - she was beginning to feel "left out of things".Having tried the once-successful ploy of dressing up as Moses and "going up into the mountains" in search of a free tablet or two, only to find out that it had been a "once-off deal", I started to analyse SWMBO's "real needs": minimum 10" display; as much storage as possible; WiFi minimum with 3G a bonus; a detachable keyboard; display resolution not that important (SWMBO is a technophobe and has resisted my numerous attempts to drag her kicking and screaming into the "computer age").
Despite hints that a nice big iPad would be ideal, I eventually settled on the Asus ZenPad 10 shown above.
Display is an IPS panel with excellent colour rendition and good wide viewing angles but only offers 1280x800 resolution - which is more than enough for G-Mail and general web browsing.
The tablet fits into a magnetic hinge clamp on the accompanying detachable keyboard and the communication between the two is via Bluetooth. In addition to its keyboard function, the detachable keyboard also offers a reasonable (for a tablet) audio replay via a slightly larger and better specc'ed pair of speakers.
Since her two carpal tunnel surgeries - one on each hand - SWMBO has difficulty gripping items between thumb and fingers, and the combination of tablet & keyboard at least offers some options when in use and the keyboard - while a bit rudimentary - at least offers some tactile feedback when keys are depressed. Also, the keyboard and tablet fold closed to protect the screen and keep dust from the keyboard. Individually and together, the components are a lot more "solid" than I had expected.
The specs for tablet? Intel Atom Quad-Core; 2GB RAM, 16GB flash in-built - to which I added a 64GB micro-SD card.
Despite some initial gripes about "it's not an iPad", she has come to appreciate the keyboard and handling options it brings and, after 2 weeks, is still interested in learning more.
This last aspect was where I "boxed clever"... Deliberately opted for an Android device as I know absolutely f*ck-all about Android (a dedicated Windows user), while both daughters - with Android smartphones - are much better equipped to "show Mom how to do this" than I am. The end-result is I can neatly duck the risky aspects of trying to "train someone who listens via her mouth"... Sneaky....
End-result? SWMBO now very happy with the tablet and beginning to proudly show it off to all who come within range... Add to this the Android issue and any potential negative aspects from the training are avoided.
And all this for the princely sum of R4,500.00 (equivalent of about $250.00)... Cheap at twice the price... :)
And all for the bargain basement

and rocked Apple's Ipod which had previously dominated the market. It offered two cameras (front and back, although the front camera was far less superior), had a sim card slot for cell phone capability, played flash videos (youtube, etc.,) and a host of other features that lured consumers away from Apple's popular 'pad' market.

That is a good deal, cool stuff.
I just bought the Samsung Tab A a few months ago, I liked it so much I got one for my brother too.
Currently use an iPad Mini, Samsung Tab A and a Nexus 7. I consider them portals into the Omega Point.
