If a thing's worth doing, it's worth doing well

Follow Ups:
A US nuke coming through The Rip into Port Phillip Bay (Melbourne). It's a notoriously rough piece of water.
The hull was fully submerged and only 5m or 6m of sail was up.
Nothing could keep up with it! Not even close!
Cheers,

Growing up in Columbus, OH, I can remember driving by the stadium on a weekend afternoon and asking my parents what all of those kids sitting on banks of the river were doing. "Oh they're just watching the submarine races" was their reply, with no further explanation, followed by them snickering at each other, which annoyed the hell out of me. I caught on, eventually.
The phrase apparently goes back to the 40's, and over time it became the universal euphemism for "hooking up", whether you were near a body of water or not. It died out around the 70's. I'm not sure how widespread the usage of the phrase was in other parts of the country, but everyone who grew up in Columbus or went to OSU in the 70's or before knows what it means. I apologize to those who already know all of this.
During my high school days there was a popular place where kids went parking that was located in sight of the Allegheny River. Everone referred to it as the submarine races.
Of course the girls we wanted to take were the ones who said "where are the submarines" :-)
I doubt today's kids even know what parking is, they just do it at home.
I guess our dates were less naïve, it was well understood a makeout session was looming once we arrived ;->

True terror is to wake up one morning and discover that your high school class is running the country.
