Yes, I am that guy who watches a few contrived reality type shows. I started with Gold Rush at the start mainly because the characters at first were all from my home state of Oregon.
Follow Ups:
Would never watch it as I get to experience first hand what those frigging yahoos are doing in the "recreational" mining district in an area I king salmon fish in Alaska in.
That the state not only allows these idiots in our own state but also a bunch of vermin from the lower 48 just adds to my hope and prayers that they all go broke and go home.
I think they are a pox on the State and should be subject to much more regulation than the free for all that is taking place up here.
You must realize this was bound to happen when gold prices skyrocketed? Governments love more revenue and this is a cash cow. Landowners with claims are selling them for far higher amounts. I understand your frustration with the whole deal. A miner at another board posted a image of the Hoffman claim being renewed for 2015, so I guess the show goes on.
Yeah Mike,
I use Gold plated products and miners and loggers I feel kindred to. I would rather drink a beer with a miner or logger than a lawyer or executive (mostly) but the amount of disruption and water pollution I personally witness gets me beyond livid.
It is one of those out of sight out of mind things as I believe mining would be subject to more restriction if folks could see what they were actually doing to salmon bearing water. Politicians I mostly just despise.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
My mistake assuming there were significant rules and regs in place to keep the destruction down. I am afraid you will suffer the same things I have seen in Oregon. Lakes and streams I once hiked into now have paved roads and camp grounds. Plentiful salmon has been greatly affected by man. Even the wildlife services did major damage removing logs and debris from spawning streams. Thanks for the insights. Happy holiday
that they so casually inflict on the planet, it's an incredible show.
The greed on display shows they've already become what they behold. Not
unlike clear cutting, their surroundings and their brains.
Regards,
J.R.
Never thought of it that way J.R.. You are right. It is strip mining. Even if they are required to fill in after they leave it will be decades before it looks decent. And with the permafrost, it probably takes much longer there? But I do enjoy watching Tony Beets and Parker.
Never miss it!
Can't wait to see Tony Beet's dredge put together.

You certainly wouldn't want to spend 30 seconds educating yourself before making a fool of yourself, would you?
First a reference to drugs at Rock and now here? Are you experienced?
