Snippet: "The most powerful recruiting promise of all is a pipeline to the NFL. And the Southeast is by far the most fertile territory in the United States for finding and grooming NFL players. The chart below shows the top 14 states (plus Washington D.C.) by number of first- and second-round NFL draft picks since 2000, per million residents. (Thanks to Alex Bresler at Aragorn for the player data.) Seven are states with SEC schools whose football teams make a point of signing the best players born in their backyards."
It's telling that the West Coast is absent from the aforementioned chart. ~:)
Follow Ups:
just don't play enough games against one another to convince a neutral observer.
Drafts are nice, but they don't tell the tale: OR has been repeatedly in the top ten with no top ten recruiting classes; most years, barely top twenty.
Anyhow, Notre Dame has ASU and USC remaining on its schedule. Since we don't have head-to-head matches, we'll have to use this as a tricky algebra problem. FSU defeated the top SEC team last year; it barely defeated ND. If the Nuns have a really tough time vs these two teams, it might be argued that those 2, one of which is considered a contender for top PAC team, is commensurate in quality to the SEC's best.
examine these gems one at a time.
"Fact: the PAC and SEC… just don't play enough games against one another to convince a neutral observer.”
Wrong. The SEC dominance of college football these past eight years has been made manifest to all but the most biased among us. Who at the AP, ESPN, Sports Illustrated, et al. is consistently contesting the SEC’s dominance? SEC dominance is a given for the vast majority of impartial observers. The only people contesting said dominance are those on the lunatic fringe of college football who are blinded by their own allegiance to their team/conference.
Another metric one might consider is the latest college football power rankings which show the Pac-12 far behind the SEC and Big 12. (See link.)
And now for your magnum opus of absurdity:
“Drafts are nice, but they don't tell the tale: OR has been repeatedly in the top ten with no top ten recruiting classes; most years, barely top twenty.

Prior to reading this I would have doubted anyone’s “ability” to cram such an assortment of non sequiturs, red herrings, and apples/oranges comparisons into two short paragraphs, but you did it. Do you ever consider what you’ve typed before posting?
used to make this "comparison", leaves a lot to be desired. Fact, when your Conference's top dog gets a chance to play an SEC elite, they're not up to the task.
Fact, LSU, 22 wins, Pac Whatevers, 4 wins. MOST of our wins came in years we sucked balls or were average at best.

w/out the SEC playing PAC teams during the regular season, it is impossible to tell, all you have is circumstantial evidence.
If OR or ASU make it to the playoffs, we'll get some answers for this year.
You know, for your "math" to be accurate, the Ducks would have had to have been blown out by its last 3 SEC rivals. We barely lost to Auburn--- our kicker choked on that chip shot to end the game; we lost a close one to the Tigers thanks to several brilliant plays by Tyrann Mathieu.
VERY close games, both of them. Yeah, we lost, but it's hard to make your claim on two very close contests.
Not really that close :)
I'll give ya the Auburn game. That was a close one. Your Ducks are at least competitive on the big stage, they just need to take the next step. Y'all kill those pesky Bears this weekend!

will show up for the Duckies? Last week's was ferocious. Our O line was vicious; one of the top players in the nation, Shaq Thompson (a guy who considered us until the last minute….), twice was pancaked on TD runs by the same lineman. Also, another super-recruit, Budda Baker, was absolutely flattened by a TE stiff-arm on a long run. Very satisfying.
We could take the "next step" this year.
Something to consider: Marcus has another year of eligibility. He's such a strange guy I think it really is possible he'll stay. That would be serious stuff...
little fellow. ~:)
reappear. If the D indeed goes absent, CAL has the weapons to make it a basketball game.
CA lost a hail mary game ender, earlier, and another w/a failed FG. They're better than they look. And that number 3 offense is for real. Watch the game and see.
overrated Pac-12 team. ~:)
were injured in a two-week period. A walk-on and a true freshman were forced into tough games. So, the team that beat Michigan State wasn't fielding anywhere near the same offense. What does that have to do with the defense, you ask? Well, the D got no rest since there were so many 3-and-outs.
Anyhow, I think the Ducks certainly were overrated, but that win over MI was for real.
They dismantled good UCLA and WA teams.
Now, the Ducks are healthy. This game will be interesting to see; has the D jelled? We both know that's really what wins games.
it's obvious the Bears will be in for a very, very, LONGGGGGGGGG evening.\\Ducks by 35pts

I'm old enough to recall the perennial competition between Ohio and Pennsylvania for draft day honors. None of the rest of the 48 were even close.
'Course, in those days, the NFL wanted 'Draft' horses.
