one may wish to think twice.
Not only fiercely dry and hot summers (my area has had the hottest summer ever recorded)--- but days of smoky air blown from far away areas with forest fires.
Now, another threat looms, the stuff of horror movies...

Clearly, I was correct in identifying this thread as politically motivated.
A LOT of population moved to the desert and semi-desert forest areas. Could they move back sometime in the not too distant future? Got to have water, you know.
...because it`s relatively cheap and there`s no sales tax.
Also not much sun in the witer.
income to housing costs. We don't have a sales tax, right, but the income tax is high.
Also, services are expensive and utilities are no great deal, either.
...most of those relocators are from CA.
That July forecast held up for much of the U.S. The 2013/2014 winter was one of the coldest in 20 years for the Midwest and eastern U.S., and was followed up with one of the coolest summers in decades. See both links.
The heat seems to be confined to the western U.S. And you are welcome to it. ~:)

but as far as absolute temps are concerned, this has been a (relatively) cool summer compared to those in our recent past. It was just in 2011 we had 70 days above 100 for highs. 23 this year so far IIRC.

After struggling with the coldest/harshest winter in over 50 years, we have been treated to one of the coolest summers on record. Perhaps THE coolest.
And an increase in the frequency and extremity of extreme events, which does seem to be happening.
We've just had one of our coldest ever Winters here, too. But it hasn't changed my understanding of the predictions nor of my belief that it most likely is happening.

As numerous writers have noted, Global warming fear mongers at the BBC warned us in 2007, that by summer 2013, Antarctica would be ice-free. But scientists have noted Antarctica is sporting record levels of ice and is at a 35-year high when it comes to the stuff.NASA’s satellites have been measuring global temperatures for 35 years, including the Antarctic. During that time there has actually been a slight cooling trend while the Antarctic sea ice has grown to a record amount. This is at stark variance with the BBC and IPCC’s hysterics about dangerous polar warming.
In fact, the highest measurement for Antarctic sea ice of all time was set on October 1st 2013. Admittedly, “there has been some slight warming in the area of the Antarctica Peninsula but the huge mass of ice sheets are located in East and West Antarctica, which measurements show to be cooling,” reports cfact.org.
In 2007 we were told global warming meant less ice around Antarctica. In 2013 we were told global warming meant more ice around Antarctica due to the extremes predicted by global warming models. Less ice, more ice, whatever. It’s global warming!
And what about those global warming models we hear so much about? Are they accurate? Uh, not so much. As one climate scientist patiently pointed out: “Anyone familiar with Antarctic sea ice knows it has been at or near record expansion the past several years and global warming models have mostly predicted reduced Antarctic sea ice allegedly due to global warming.” Ouch.
Today, many scientists are increasingly moving toward a global cooling consensus. See link. Perhpas that's why the doomsayers have changed their own terminology from "global warming" to "climate change."

No matter what the weather does, they'll say it's proof they're right (as you said). Huge gulf hurricanes in '05? They were shouting "proof of man made climate change" from the top of their lungs. Far fewer gulf hurricanes since? Proof of climate change as well.

Agreed. BTW...thanks for the posts concerning your experiences as a member of a GJ. That was a real eye-opener.
Yes Tim. Extremes become more prevalent. That's what I've been seeing here anyway. The data are there but you'll never change a closed mind. Especially one closed from political bias.

... and now fall is just about here. I want our string of low to mid 80's to return next year.
produce, really long growing season for my favorites, peaches and blueberries.
Inland SE Australia is not a desert, but it gets very little rain.
Fortunately, after the fires in 2003, there were lots of damaged trees and Canberra has lots of aging street trees planted from the 19teens and onwards.
Using my contacts with arborists I've been able to get quite a few big truck loads for free, and quite a bit some from removing and chipping trees already on the block which were sick. And the big Arizona Cypress that shade-limited our capacity to grow food. So, I've currently got three reserve piles of wood-chip.
I've been planing to use 1-1.5 inch lumps of recycled concrete around the house under the eaves to limit the effect of falling embers. Will still need a visit with the blower-vac twice a year.
Advantages of Mulching with wood-chip, are:
No mowing, which is a good thing for a music listener.
Less watering.
Soil-moisture is better maintained through the hot/dry seasons.
Disadvantages:
Cost? (I've been and will be lucky there) / time / effort.
Tends to wash away in downpours, requiring replacement with barrow-load after barrow-load. This work carries a slight risk from an-aerobic moulds/bacilli that can develop in the mounds.
Mulching with pebbles / recycled concrete? This might heat the soil surface a bit more, yet lets through most of the rain water. But it is NOT cheap and the work is way heavier.
Two other ideas are rain-water tanks off your roof/s. And, grey-water for almost everything other than root crops. Or even processed grey-water.

Not enough water to go around, which has been an issue for decades. I promise not to move there, as much as I have enjoyed my two visits.

"If you are the owner of a new stereophonic system, this record will play with even more brilliant true-to-life fidelity. In short, you can purchase this record with no fear of its becoming obsolete in the future."
The triple whammy of heat, dryness, and lack of power will soon hit simultaneously.
The real tragedy is that our conservative brethren in the interior will be pushed toward the coasts, become your neighbors, blaming you for their dislocation. You can't fix stoopid.
I agree. A person would have to be really stoopid to live near liberals!
"US heating up, where to go?"
"my area has had the hottest summer ever recorded"
Cite data for both claims.
That's where you go with that post? Oh man.......why am I surprised.

You must have missed this from tinhead's OP title:

Psychological impressions can be very subtle. As a life-long part-time "student" of psychology and marketing (and psych minor in college), I get the implied message, as does anyone who has any experience in the science of marketing.
...maybe you should have studied climate science so you`d have a clue.
what those folks out west are doing **wrong** to affect the environment in such a negative way? ~:)
