Meanwhile, here in OR, we're still waiting for the "big one."
Follow Ups:
Decent 2011 Argentine Malbecs (another Spanish-speaking country like California) are still around $10.
Probably, the wine: It's all RED anyway, mostly.
... Which bottle of wine is dearer today than at the beginning of the year? How much has it gone up?
What workers were crushed by falling barrels? None?
How many people in Oregon are waiting for the big one?
I'm sure an intrepid soul such as yourself will have all the answers.
Thanks.

...few wineries lost very much wine.
Wine prices are are based on whatever the public is willing to pay.
Oregon pinots' prices are already up.
Econ 101.
...it's actually about price elasticity.
The average bottle of wine costs about $6 to produce.
the bottles will increase in price. The earthquake didn't discriminate and expensive wines will become more so. Again, supply AND demand.
...so the supply has not changed.
Silver Oak only lost some of the bottles they use for blending, but let's say they lost a few barrels and raised their prices.
At some point people would buy a different, less expensive Napa cab since there are a whole lot as good and much better at that price point.
wineries lost the barrels when they fell with not much hope of getting new ones in time (another article).
Anyhow, I never said there would be a great price increase, it was phrased as a question--- that's what a question mark means, ya know?
Wine is supply and demand, like any commodity. Please, explain specifically what you mean by the "elasticity" in this situation. As yet, there has been no official calculation of damage to the industry.
As far as Silver Oak: there's Alexander and Napa; I wouldn't lump them both as overpriced, but I'll let you explain yourself there, too.
I'm sure you know that there are lots of price points in cabernet from Napa and for many folks, only a specific wine will do, i.e. they would pay more for a wine that had an increase vis a vis the competitors. I needn't mention that Silver Oak has a wide following, a prominent place in the industry whether or not we feel it is justified (like Jordan, perhaps?).
"...few wineries lost very much wine.

10-4.
I saw a follow-up piece on the news saying that less than 5 percent of Napa wine was affected. Heck, that's less than the year-to-year variation in production just due to weather. And let's not forget that Napa is only one small wine-producing area of the U.S. west coast. So, from a sensational news story perspective, it was a near disaster, but from a reality perspective, it's a non-issue.
...some of the small Napa producers who lost wine I have never even heard of.
There are over 450 wineries in Napa.
Then there is Sonoma, Paso Robles, Amador, Livermore, Russian River, Mendocino, Monterey, Santa Barbara, San Benito, etc.
As of 2012 there were over 3,750 wineries in California.
just when I started to think that Tinear knew what he was talking about for once.
is world-class, too.
Jeesh.
Next, you'll try and say three songs on LZ's first album are not acoustic.
Wait, you already did that, didn't you?
have you eaten in the winery? Yes or no?
I said the LZ songs were a different GENRE of music than the songs of David Rawlin's Machine and Band of Joy. Do you even know what GENRE both types are?
Yes or No?
I bet you got the snot beat out of you in school.
You probably don't realize the ego necessary to make and try to defend that statement.
In school, you were the type of kid that the girls deigned to beat up.
and many are married there. The suite is beyond your scope at 650 a night. The bridal suite is more affordable for a guy on SS, 550 a night. Do you know what it is like to dine in a wine cellar at a private table surrounded by a 250K wine collection with bottles running from 200-5000 a pop?
That is what we do when we leave the hut to enjoy a night with our company and our friends.
Because you have not heard of it does nothing to lower it's standing. Remember he made his billion selling communications to shit holes like Brazil. Perhaps had you learned to use them you might have heard of the place.
You should know better than that, Larry.
It is obvious why he can't give ANY examples of the drivel he asserts.

tedious and ugly, both. I suppose that's some sort of accomplishment. Your feeble attempts to scream out how happy you are does provide amusement. We both know that happy folks don't go around initiating conflict. Note the initiating. Defending oneself is a healthy habit I believe in. Doesn't take much effort, regarding your aggression.
... How is the numbering going with the list?Accomplishment?
You mean like the special kind of accomplishment where one works all their life and has no retirement other than social security?
Or do you mean where one actually accomplishes something?
Do let me know, I am fascinated to hear your sage advice.
I am not in the least bit aggressive, only feeble-minded, negative, defensive, shallow and/or ignorant people will find my maverick style, aggressive. At least you get to tick all the boxes.
Your stupid delusions of claiming to know what everyone does, says & think is truly amazing for one of so little substance. But carry on, it gives me a laugh. Yes, it does!

please no big one, I love Oregonian Pinot Noir. I usually get it once a year on Thanksgiving, probably the only time in the year I drink wine. It sounds funny but it goes with turkey very very well.
Prices will go up but considering the chances of earthquakes I'm surprised these barrels weren't secured better. If they were simply stacked like it sounds then too bad, there will be and are losses. Of course it's the consumer who will pay the price ultimately for the wineries decisions not to protect the wine better. I don't drink a lot of wine but when I do it's usually CA wine. If prices skyrocket I'll drink beer or whiskey on ice, or foreign wines.
