Semi Finals today between Spain and Portugal. Ronaldo in form. Anyone watching? People have something to cheer for. Germany-Italy next.

I don't think I've ever seen a better passing display than the first half.
This Spanish side may be the best technical team ever to play football. The precision of the passing, in terms of weight, direction and timing, never mind the options they seem to have, is breathtaking.
I hope they're still together for the next World Cup (and get beaten in the final by Scotland of course).
Spain's passing is something else. Couple of great players cannot beat such a cohesive unit. Even Messi would have found it hard going. Would have beaten Germany too.
All the best for Scotland.

Spain's 4-3-2-1 versus Italy's 4-1-3-2 today.
Hopefully no penalty kickoff.

Portugal have their high pressure tactics spot on so far, and it's upsetting the Spanish normal quick passing game. I still fancy Spain in the second half though, and think they'll meet Germany in the final.
As great a played as Ronaldo is, I think his ego get's in the way of his decision making at times. He has this in common with Didier Drogba and Ayen? Robin, usually preferring the hero route to the team player one.
the little guy from Argentina, Lionel Messi, Messi will certainly compliment Ronaldo's tendencies to wait for the heroic moments to score. Perhaps, Ronaldo needs to reconsider when reading Don Quixote's memoirs, and not to take it literally.

Instead of doing what every good captain does, taking the first penalty, he decided to take number 5. Too late son, it was all over beofre you got your cape on....
I think Messi's the player of this generation. No-one even comes close, and he's in the perfect team to showcase his skills.
What about tonight? I think Germany will shut Perli out of the game and make Italy look fairly ordinary.
as Portugal played Spain the best they could by clogging the passing lanes so they can contain Spain’s beehive attack technique. If Spain has a Messi like striker the game would have been over before the second half. Soccer has the highest upset percentage in any sport because of the penalty shots and the most dreaded of them all the shootout. If they eliminate these rules prior to Italy and Germany’s game, Germany will win based on their strong play, skills and what have you, however, if the rule is still in place and if they take Germany to a shootout there will be a 50-50 chance that Italy will upset Germany. I’m sure Balotelli, Pirlo and Buffon are looking forward to it.
Enjoy the game with heart full of ale; keep away from whiskey as they don’t jell well with a soccer game, so I’ve heard.

I was sure Germany would put a marker on Pirlo and smother the Italian midfield. He's a class act, and the player of the tournament so far in my opinion.
All we need now is for Spain to finally hit some form and it could be a great final.
As the Latin countries have finally meet in the final match. Germany had skills but it was like vanilla as they're lacking grit and physical aspect in their game of which Italy has plenty of.
Italy will be the underdog again as they were against Germany, if they can maintain their composure and play smart against the more robust and obviously the most skilled squad in the tournament, they might be able to pull another upset.
As usual I'll be watching this game with great interest and may the best team win, for the time being anyway.
Here's a quip...from a Scottish soccer fan "Do you know what Celtic really stands for?"
"Celtic Even Lost To Inverness Caley"
Enjoy!!!...

Disappointed with Germany's loss. I considered them as superior and deserving to go all the way. Well, I hope the finals wont be a repeat of the first match and then end up in that nonsensical shootout.
Beer and Italian sausage ready!

Check our rivals Rangers, who are going through their death rattle. Not a pretty sight. They've been found cheating (paying under the counter supplimentary wages, no tax invloved), for the last 10 years or so, and are now in liquidation.
By the way, the best ever newspaper headline was when Caley Thistle beat Celtic in the cup. It read
"Super Caley go ballistic Celtic are atrocious".
I consider the penalty shootout a primitive way of settling things. I have been wondering about writing to the Authorities about an idea. During the extra time, the first half will have one team play with only 9 players and the other team 11 players. In the second half it will be reversed. It would be an exciting 15 minutes each. Definitely better than the penalty shootout.

But we still need Sepp Blatter's ok, although, for the moment he's got his hands full working on the video replay debacle.
