Hey guys (gals?);
This is supposed to be a visual medium... and everyone including me loves good eye candy...so if you have pictures of a completed MQ amp or preamp... post us some pictures of your creation...
or post a schematic with a short description of what you've done...
in return, I'll send you a MQ teeshirt or cycling jersey... at least till we run out of them...
thanks

There are MQ cycling jerseys? No way! How much?I can't post my photos directly here, but here are pics on my Tripod site:

Parafeed 300Bs using TFA-2004 output trannys (in M6), EXO-03 plate chokes (they're in the box on the tops to keep pokey fingers away from B+, so you can't see them in the pics), and BCP-GCM6's on the grid of the output tubes. (Sorry about the power supply, though.)
I just added shunt voltage regulation on top of the C4S current regulator for the 6N1P driver, using the extra triode on the 6N1P. Like the BCP-GCM6's, it is an awesome mod . . . more "everything."
the pic doesn't belong on the same page as the works of art below, but given the sound I'm pretty proud of these amps nonetheless. Nickel TFA2004Jr OPTs up front and center. Thanks to both Mikey and DocB.
Sorry... That message number is not valid.
Here's my headphone amp. Dual mono MQ PGP 8.1s thru ultrafast snubbered rectifiers into a LC filter using MQ EXO-03s as filter chokes to scrub off a few volts and cream any ripple. DC heater supply with schottky diodes and filament chokes. 6C45pi with C4S loaded triode wired Mullard 6BQ5 hybrid shunt reg and C4S plate load, ultra cool WE style negative rail bias. MQ TL404 output autoformers and custom potted Jupiter beeswax parafeed coupling caps. Daven coarse and fine 600 ohm attentuators with extended precision ground 303 stainless shafts in rulon bushings, 4:1 stepdown input transformers for 26dB headroom, balanced input with phase switching and ground lift. Single point ground. Electroswitch rotary and toggle switches, vintage Dakaware knobs, copper vein powder coated Bud rack chassis, Switchcraft XLRs, Neutrik headphone jack.
That is one heck of a nice layout!
Thanks Jeff. The vertical bulkheads of that huge, modular Bud rack box make for the potential to cram a lot more inside. At 35lbs. we have a pretty good Dunker factor going, about 10lb./watt. That was one of the toughest projects to let go. It's now employed at Paul Stubblebine Mastering. Here it is with several MQ equipped amps (3 x PP300B with MQ Peerless S-240-A, 1 x parafeed SE45 with EXO-45, BCP-15 and PGP8.1) that were built by John Tucker and subsquently modified by PJ, Paul and myself.
Impressive would be an understatement! How did you like the 300B PP amps? I'm tempted to build one with my pair of S-240-A that are actually in the Seth. I am now stuck with a rather large listening room and the 7W from a Class A 2A3PP amp is borderline.
Did you use a self bias scheme or an adjustable bias?
What's the lacewood chassis with the big aluminium heat sink on the first shelve?
Book matched lace wood veneer over 2mm alu.
Here is the shiniest pair of Horus ever made, affectuously known as the "XQJ-37 Nuclear Powered Pan-Sexual Roto-Plooker". I built these as an exchange against a gorgeous pair of rosewood Klipschorns. I can't claim for the chassis design as I didn't do it!Chrome ain't my thing too much but those who like that Quicksilver style might enjoy...
Here's one of my Bottlehead Afterglows, with the TFA204, of course.
I promise I'll wear my MQ advertising proudly (my car racing apparel tends toward F1 hats, though - I hope that's ok!).

This was a stereo Class AB Push-Pull I built for Tony Zorn in San Salvador.Circuit was rather simple, two half of a 6SN7 in parallel driving a pair of 2A3 with an IT phase splitter. The OPTs were from the Brooklyn serie, I don't recall the number but I think those were the 20W model with a 6.6K primary.
That amp is still is use! what great sound! (those seth monoblocks get my mouth watering though)...regards, tony

I still hesitate between making it a 300B or a 2A3 amp.Basically it will be a 5687 choke loaded with a EXO-010 cap coupled to a 2A3 or 300B in parafeed using the Japanese plate choke and a pair of TFA-2004 Jr.
I run a pair of these in my reference system. Powered by an MQ PGP 8.1 power trans (center) feeding a CLC filter containing our made for Bottlehead by MagneQuest RGC-6 filter mounted under the chassis. Circuit is a parafeed 300B driven by a an active loaded shunt regulator feeding a C4S'd 6N1P. Plate choke (left) is the MQ BPC (Brainiac Plate Choke, named for my parter Paul "Brainiac" Joppa) with custom polished and lacquered brass bell ends. Output trans (right) is one of Mike's best, an all permalloy MQ TFA-2004, again with custom polished brass bell ends.Coupling caps in this one are Auricaps, and I'll probably upgrade the interstage coupling cap to a V-Cap. Filaments are choke filtered DC. B+ rectification is snubbered ultrafast rectifiers, DC rectification uses Schottkys. There are two startup relays, one for B+ delay and one which grounds the OT primary to avoid magnetization of the sensitive nickel core during the startup pulse. Tubes are low noise 6N1ps and early production Valve Art Titanium mesh plate 300Bs with gold plated copper bases.
Chassis plates were machined by Front Panel Express and powder coated in Copper Vein by Kitsap Powder Coating. The beautifully figured birdseye maple base was crafted by Lew Hardy of Vivaldi Audio.
Designed by PJ, built by me, they are about 8W output, and dead quiet. I think the last t shirt I got from you was about ten years ago, bro. I wore it til it was full of holes. Then it was retired to tube polishing duties before expiring. I take a large ;^)> .
That is one serious amp! Beautiful, classic and what would appear to be all the bells and whistles. I bet it sounds even more fantastic than it looks, if that is possible. Doc you set a high mark to shoot for. I would think this would qualify for a couple of "T"'s , you know the Queen would probably like one too!
