Return to K&K Audio / Lundahl Transformers
76.183.14.227
Finished a K&K basic ST-70 about a month ago. I'm using it in an actively crossed open baffle, fullrange + woofer setup. The K&K drives the fullrange and a pair of lightly modified MK-IV's drive the woofers.
I concur with just about every review of this unit . . . it is a great amp and, at its low price, a phenomenal deal. This amp had a full-mod Curcio board when I got it. While I never was happy with the Curcio board--and rarely used the amp--it now has relegated my modified MK-IV's to driving the woofers.
I also provided an interior shot, because I couldn't find one when I was considering purchasing the kit.

Thanks Sean. Most of us could take lessons on wiring from you!
I will take this opportunity, since you kindly provided it, to announce that there will an upgrade for the ST-70 kit available in about 3 weeks. It is complelely retrofittable and consists of 2 PC boards that attach underneath to the front screws that secure the 2 output transformers. The boards replace the 2 x 12.5K 5w resistors and 2 x 22uF 450V caps that decouple the B+ supply to the front end. The new circuit is a shunt regulator that provides a very stable power source for the input stage and allows us to increase the value of the plate load resistors to get better linearity in the front end. Expect to hear more dynamic contrast across the frequency band and better delineation of detail. The price has not been set, but it will be modest.

I'll let my brother know about these puppies, I'm sure he'll go for it. I modded his ST-70 with one of your kits. I can't believe how good his amp sounds. Pretty close to my SETs, that I have more than $3,500 in parts, and years of tweaking into. Your mod to an ST-70 takes it to a whole nuther level.
It really is an ear opener to hear what a transformer phase splitting, class A, no negative feedback, differential amp, is capable of.

Count me in for the upgrade. I had an ST-70 that was upgraded with the SDS board and power supply and then I converted it with the premium K&K kit a few months back. I can't believe how good this amp has become. I love KT66's and the 6P3S-E in mine.
