This is just a sad, misanthropic, guy who posts negative stuff all the time to make himself feel better and see his name at the top of the page. Pity his sorry ass.
So is all criticism "bs".......?
OK we all love jazz, and many of us played it for a living. And of course guys like Miles and Micheal Brecker had high profiles in the jazz world. And I hope it goes without saying that we support fellow musicians who give so much artistic pleasure and lead a somewhat "different" life from many others. So there's no lack of respect, and nor should there be.
But Jeez, can't we use this forum to simply voice subjective opinions on what we find boring and rewarding in jazz, as we would in anything else in our lives?
The anti-Miles rap shot its wad on Music. It didn't get any more enlightened in the intervening years. Ya think Mike hasn't posted enough negative shit about Miles yet? Click on the link.If you have an informed comment on what I posted re: Brecker you're free to post it. Actually you're free to post UNinformed comments too and I'm free to say I totally disagree.
I fail to see what the point of negative posts about specific musicians is. Should we all litter the forum with posts about players/writers we don't like? Is that what you want outta this joint, a place to exclaim so & so sucks, so & so is overated? I'd rather read the opposite and maybe get hipped to players/music/recordings I'm not aware of, but it ain't like I deleted Mike's or your posts. If it generates interest, fine. I expressed my view and nobody stopped you from doing the same.

He actually has a distasteful pattern.

"... only a very few individuals understand as yet that personal salvation is a contradiction in terms."
Artists would get nowhere without a highly developed critical faculty. Mostly - in the interests of developing their art - directed at themselves and everything they produce, play or compose. A true artist who is not self-critical surely does not exist.
So I don't really follow you when you say "I fail to see what the point of negative posts about specific musicians is." I forget the famous Downbeat interview when a jazz musician rated all the tracks he was presented with with the maximum number of stars "just for being able to survive in the profession". And I and others surely felt a lot of sympathy with him.
But let's be free to call out musicians as we experience them. If nobody used their critical faculties to express likes and dislikes, what kind of a boring place would this be? Sounds like a kind of hippie dream world, not that we probably didn't all have our (very enjoyable) hippie moments....
I'm oblivious to Mike's other posts so I'll pass on that.
You apparently think you were unable to post your views in spite of the fact that they're on this page. I think I'm allowed to express my view of what you or others post too, which I did. If you wanna post to comment on the specifics of what I had to say about the piece on Brecker who's stopping you? If you can't see the difference between an artist being self-critical and Mike posting his umpteenth negative post about Miles you have my condolences.
Since this forum was created I've been the mod here. IIRC no posts have been deleted, two were moved to more appropriate forums.
I never said this was about deleting posts - I respect your record for that, of course. And once again, I have absolutely no knowledge about Mike's other posts. I'm just making a general comment about saying what we do or don't like, which is pretty normal, isn't it?
But when our "criticism" is your "negative shit"..............?
Not sure Rick would have said what he said for no valid reason. Mike K. reveres Paul Whiteman, BTW.
