Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?
As an aside: Why the fug is it that no two hifi components have the same type of connectors on 'em? These utterly massive and (otherwise) beautifully made JBL drivers have little spring-loaded connectors that would have looked at home on a mid-1970s Radio Shack 'monkey coffin'. Thus the strategically installed nails and cliplead (OFC, cryo-treated, but of course!) adaptors.

Follow Ups:
There was a Pioneer speaker that had a copy of the Altec coax and a horn mid like that. The crossed the woofer to the horn mid, then to the tweeter in the coax. I would imagine that the drivers operated very "pistonically" in this configuration.

so have you had a listen yet? Do you plan to disconnect your 604 tweeters and run these for a while? moray james.

not sure that losing the coaxial treble unit is a good idea, though.
Won't stop me from giving it a whirl, though.

Why no? Looks like a fine driver and horn, you can time align the compression and the 604 woofer diaphragm. Might surprise you. Have fun thanks for posting always enjoy looking at gear in your room.

Altec and JBL knew what they were doing. Their products had to perform up to their specs and be reliable in all sorts of environments. Those connectors are proven and more than adequate for domestic use.
If your 604s were 8Gs they would have the same connectors as the JBLs. Altec went with the same connector type on most of their speakers in the 70s.
One leg of your spades might fit in the spring connector as will bare wire.

plus, the wire from the XO/L-pad is a little too short. Oops!
Thanks for the suggestion and information, though.

I knew you have Es and I've seen you're pic of the CAT5 wires.
You could spring for another 3 foot pair without ends. It could set you back 2 or 3 bucks.
the lugs do fit in the spring-loaded JBL terminals.
D'oh.
Sorry.
all the best,

so, yeah, I could -- but it's just an experiment.
all the best,
