I would early on get into audio recording nowadays easy with inexpensive mics and interfaces. Instead of arguing whether speaker A is better than speaker B I would go with DIY underhung drivers using a light VC former/cone with an inside/outside wet mount edgewound anodized aluminum. A Modified Altec 515B a 15" could be changed to a 8-10" frame. The 3" VC custom wound as above in that kind of magnetic flux would do nicely and equal electrostatic response but with Balls! A sub to cover 20-120 Hz and a tweet to cover 2KHz and up would complete the system and suffice with a simple first order x over for home use. Amps use whatever turns you on the difference is not huge and is personal. Horns are great and I do mean BIG. This system should make anyone happy BUT would avoid the fun of tinkering with gear for a lifetime.

These were end stage designs for me. The above for a simple home system and for PA use a 55 pound compact horn line array 22"x 16" that unfolds at show time to 70"x 16". Acts as a point source and outperforms the large direct line array radiators from JBL and L acoustics using just 2x10" and 2 HF comp drivers. For PA sub a 17 Hzs length 1/2 wavelength sub horn with a mouth perimeter set for 35 Hzs with way more than 110dBs/W at 35 Hzs by combining the fundamental, 2nd and third harmonic at that freq. As far as I am concerned thatīs it for Audio speaker design. I will proceed now with designing a flying saucer and visit the alleged Mars bases !!Jajaja. In reality the antigravity motor of UFOs is quite simple. High Voltage capacitors coronal discharge when overcharged provides the drive. These need to be radially placed and sequenced around and around. The power source is the problem a basketball sized nuclear reactor ideally anti matter type is needed. I will look in the nearest junkyard and see what I can pick up.

It probably would still be focused on Karlson stuff ;^) - maybe a few good horns here and there

You're gettin' there. Keep thinking and studying.
:)
If I had to do it over again, I would have gotten Danley USA/Synergy horns sooner with tapped horn subs using B&C 21" drivers.
Rafaro,
It's never too late to start over!
After 20 years living in a house, guest house, and shop I built, all with built in speakers, I recently moved from the high desert of New Mexico to Florida. After building(and buying)some new speakers and amps, and listening to my old studio monitors for the first time in a year, realize that the music is the most important part of the experience.
That said, I have 17 speakers of 4 new designs presently on the "to do"list, it's nice to have a shop to work in again!
Cheers,
Art
Art,
So where in Florida did you move?
Jim
We moved to Deland, between Orlando and Daytona Beach.
