Looking for some nice efficient speakers to do mids and highs with a 2x 6bq5/el84 per channel amp. Bass will be taken care of by a powered sub. Would appreciate your opinions!

OK here is what I bought
some old Richard Allan golden 8 speakers. Does anyone know anything about them? the price was good and the guy says they sound fantastic. I bought them without a proper viewing/listening so I hope they will be good. Pics are not the greatest... He said he used open baffle, any other ideas? the speaker model is CG8 and some other info is attached. I have no calcultor for design. Can you guys help me out on how I might proceed?

One speaker you should not over look with that type of power is the '57 Quad ESL-
I know that it is not efficient - but if pairing w/ a sub and the room is not too big - It will be magic!
a pair of 6BQ5s will run those speakers beautifully!
Look at some Ref3A de Capos a nice new version on the gon for 1100.00
Thanks for the heads up ;) those look like a good choice for me. Has anyone used dynaco a25"s? They can be had cheap too and seem to please.I can't use very large speakers but thanks for the advice Kanedak.

Extreme proposition considering their sheer size: a freshened up pair of LaScalas would work great with that amp, and they DO require some help from a subwoofer :)
Hi Burwoodc.
The suggestions you got to run high efficiency speakers is very good advise.
That being said, in the meantime, you still may get enjoyment out of your smallish OPTs with lower efficiency speakers.
Just my opinion, but I would rather do that then run separate subs.
I have used a ~5 watt per channel amp (with small OPTs) with 92db (medium-low efficiency) for quite some time and while it didn't have the authority of say a Fisher 400 at higher volumes, it was a nicer setup all round when run within it's limits.
Thanks for your reply! For the record I have changed my mind on the smallish OPT and decided to run beefier OPT from a heath aa-1oo. In a fisher sa-100 clone circuit.
Some specific speaker recommendations would be appreciated.

Consider something from the Altec 604 lineup. Some people use subs with these, some don't.
The earlier versions benefit from subs more so then the later versions.
