And I don't mean grain punch in college. LOL
Ever since Faital drivers were advertised in the US I had my sites on the 12PR310 but to cheap to shell out 400 beans for a pair. Well, the audio gods were shining down on me and a pair came up on ebay and I snagged them for 160 the pr.
Fit and finish is very nice. When tapping on the cone they have a nice "drummy" sound. Since they have a very tight suspension I didn't have much hope.
Boy was I wrong. I slapped them in the old 3 cubic foot 40hz BR box used with the Beyma 12BR70 DE250/H110 combo and BOOOOOM! Hit like a tank, kick like a mule! Loud as heck! No real deep bass like the AE TD15S but nice sharp solid satisfying punch!
Put them in from of the PPSLIB and total devastation!!
They really do have good vocal articulation and nice tone and sound stage too.

Nice....real nice.
Hi guys,
The 12pr310s are now in a 2.5 cubic foot box tuned in the low 50s. The produce a good mid 50s bass at 96db +-. Not a bad balance for it's size. With this they are perfect for late 50s early 60s Jazz, nice punchy bass and articulate through their range. Easy to drive and they get very loud.
I kick in the PPSL IB for heavy music They blend together nicely and shake the house. However, the 25 to 50hz the AE TD15S produces is hard to beat. Later this week I'll cross the PR310 to the 15S and see what for gut pounding that combo produces. LOL
I have been following your posts on this design with interest. I have a pair of Klipsch Heresy speakers, but I think I would be better off selling them and building something like this, than trying to modify them to sound good. (They don't sound that good to me in stock form.) Thank you for posting!
Dave
I would recommend the link below but change the box size for max flat alignment add a pair of 15" subs and screw it all.
Use at least two 3" ports. A single is too shallow and too much midbass reflects out the port. Two 3"ers will be 5-6" deep and clean up the lower vocal range.
I think Bill Woods mentioned that a nice way to get "punch" is four 12" woofers in a sealed cab.
Lotsa cone area. Lotsa magnets. No resonator-port issues. Makes sense.
Some of what we call "punch" is also a sense of cabinet pressurization and ringing. I think that's why some mid/bass horns don't have the same "punch" although they are actually capable of greater dynamic peaks and more air coupling. The sense of distortion tells our ears that something is being mechanically stressed.
What kind of crossover did you use? What frequency?
I used a 2nd order on the woofer and third on the horn at about 1.8K. This is a throw together. Once the proper box is finished I'll redo the crossover.
These sure have been on my radar.
~50 Hz in the high 90's in nothing to scoff at, especially in a smallish box.
Have you found a tweeter pairing that you like?
They are a realistic 96db, 99 is based on cone peaks.
I like the good old DE250 with the RCF H110 horn. If you google around another fellow has a complete project built with the SEOS horn. Wayne's Pi horn would be a good choice. If used witth low power the little SB Acoustic SB29 tweeters crossed at 1800 or so would be nice too.

Did you mean to type, "put them in front of"?
okay, let me guess PPSLIB= push-pull slot loaded infinite baffle ?
The 12PR310 is, of course, a mid-bass driver. Not really made for deep bass,
but yes, if you meant to match it with an I.B. sub, that combination works
very, very well.
Yes PPSL Infinatly baffled.
I'm building a proper box for the 12PR310s.
Down with bullies, up with music appreciators!!!
