Had occasion to have all these drivers in one place at one time this morning, so I thought I'd snap a photo and share it. From left to right are RCA MI-4410 pair, Two pair Altec 755A, and on the right, square frame Lowther PM6A.
Follow Ups:
I'll take the ones on the left! Seriously, I recall the 4410 (field coil) and 4411 (permanent magnet) as Lowther killers years ago, with all the naturalness of the Lowthers while lacking the ice pick response peaks. I've still got pairs of both packed away, and a pair of 64B cabs in dire need of restoration. Great gear is timeless!
For the record, the RCA MI-4410 is the permanent magnet version, and the MI-4411 is the field coil version. The above poster had them reversed.

I just stuck a pair of 8" Electro-Voice 8SPC drivers, into rear ported cabinets......stunning sound presentation, IMO.
( with apologies to Keats )..Greetings- Where you lucky enough to audition the pairs in open baffles by chance? I'd be curious to hear your impressions of these fine drivers, especially how they compare at the low end of their frequency response. Thanks for that photo, it's a keeper! wpod
Since you enjoyed that photo so much, I've added another one here of the fronts of the speakers. I've omitted the second pair of 755A's because I'm too lazy to unbolt them from one another.
I have listened to the 755A's and PM6A's extensively. The 755A's mostly in 2 cubic foot sealed cabinets of Western Electric design (KS-12035, IIRC), and the Lowthers in old Acousta Standards built in the early 1960's. Each of these is the cabinet specified by the manufacturer. How do they compare? Honestly, I could probably live with either one. The 755A is a bit punchier, maybe a little more guts. The PM6A is more open, more lucid and organic. Both are a joy with the right amplification.
I did have the 755A's in JE style open baffles one weekend many years ago while comparing them to some Altec 756A + 3000. I don't recall all the details, but the 755A sounded enough better to me that the 756A were sold.
The RCA MI-4410 are a fairly recent addition. I found them after my 64-B cabinets were already sold. Both drivers are in need of some restoration (aged, brittle surrounds), so listening has been limited. Since the cabinets were already gone, I listened to them unmounted, sitting on a counter top with a blanket under them to keep them from rolling away. Far from optimal, of course, but it's instructive to listen to any speaker this way. Even in this setup, it's obvious that these drivers have amazing capabilities. For fun, I put an unmounted 755A and an unmounted PM6A in the same spot for comparison. The 755A held its own nicely, though my wife thought she preferred what the RCA was doing. The Lowther seemed a little outclassed by both of the above in this situation, but I know it's better than that. It had been stored unused for over a year, and really needs some running it time for a fair test.
In the end, if it's bass you're looking for, none of these drivers are going to help you much. The bass of drivers like these is wholly a function of the suitability and execution of the cabinet design. There's a price to be paid for trying to get too much bass out of these types of speakers. Usually it's best to let them do what they do best, and have just enough low end to give some support to the music. It'll be there with any of these, kind of like it it with a Quad ESL, but it won't rattle the windows or thump your chest.
What a great collection of drivers !!! Even if you just mount these divers in open baffles and listen, that is a lot of work. I also would be curious on your opinion on these drivers also. Thanks for your time and effort !!!
