Hello. I am new here so please let me know if anything’s out of line w/my profile or posts. I’m interested in Danley’s SH100Bs for 2 channel music only setup and low to moderate listening levels.1.Would 16 sqm room be enough for SH100B’s or will the bass be overwhelming. I looked at your setup on youtube and the room didn’t look that big.
2.Do you still have SH100B’s? If not, what did you replace them with and why?
3.How are these and other Danleys at low and moderate volume levels?
4.Have you tried SM-96?Everyone, please chime in
Thank you

I think the SH100B would be definitely too much for a room like this. My room is about 35 sqm. I do not have the SH100B in my room anymore it used for PA at the moment, I use to have SM60 with TH 28 (or even a TH Mini) Danley sub nowadays. I think the SM60 suits more to my room than an SH50 or SH100B. The SM60 is a very good speaker for home use and smaller rooms, and very easy to find a stand for it. I never had a chance to try an SM96, but can be very good too. The SH50 and SH100B are heavy and a good stand is a difficult think to find for them. I think for small ( smaller than 25 sqm) even the SH 100s and SH Minis would be very good. I really like them with a TH28 sub. You can use the close or on the wall not only for home theatre but for hifi too. The SH100 an be easily driven by tube amps like Ear-Yoshino V20 or different Leben amps.
Hi, I'd like to send you a question by email about the altmann adc, but your email is not available here. Can you tell me what it is?
Thanks for your reply, Endust. How had all the Danleys you’ve listed performed at low volume levels in your room? Did you loose anything at lower levels.
I’ve read someplace that in general pro-audio drivers are made to sound best at high SPLs, although have no idea if this is a true statement. Could you comment on Danley in that regard... Thanks
I have family, neighbours, so need to use with standard volume too :)
I liked the SM60/TH Mini and the SH100B quiet. Others were loosing minor body of the instruments, which is not very surprising to be honest.
Which cables did you use with Danley’s and Yamamoto and Leben amps? DSL’s use Speakon connectors and those amps use banana or spades. Is there a ready-to-use product available? I will probably need something similar as I was thinking of a simple setup using EL34 amp (from the likes of Quicksilver or moded Dyna) and SM69F or SM96 without a sub. Should probably be ok for 16sqm room.
Thanks
Thank you, Endust
:)
The SM-96 with subs would be very nice in a 3.5 x 4.5 meter room, wide enough so you could use the room either way, but the 60 degree vertical coverage would eliminate a lot of the floor and ceiling bounce the SH-100/SH100B would have.
Could you comment on my assumption that wider coverage is better in small room than narrower. Would wall reflection matter as in when SM-96 is positioned along the 3.5 m wall. I have only rudimentary understanding of the principles involved here. Thanks
The SH-100B adds another octave of bass extension compared to the SH100, the bass is balanced to the coaxial horn.
The size, shape, and furnishing of your room will determine it’s bass response, in some rooms the ability to separate the subwoofer placement from the mains can offer an improvement in sound quality, but a more complex set up.
The SH-100B is compact for a horn loaded speaker, 29.5 x 20.5 x 19inches deep, and actually has slightly lower frequency extension than the SH-96.
The SH-96 is a much larger cabinet, 45 inches wide, 26.5 high, by 25 deep. The much larger size allows for smoother response with tighter pattern control to a lower frequency, and far more output level at more than twice the cost.
I have listened to the SH-100, it sounds detailed and defined, the extra octave the SH100B offers definitely would be nice.
In comparison to another much larger speaker the SH-100 bass extension was the only thing I thought was missing. The co-axial speaker gives excellent imaging and high fidelity with plenty SPL, but is not as smooth as many of the other speakers in the Synergy line up.
The SH-100 pattern is actually wider than I would prefer, in most average listening rooms I’d prefer the vertical pattern control the SH-95 or the newer SM-96 offer, with a subwoofer (or two).
That said, I prefer direct sound with as little reflected sound as possible, many listeners like room reflections, and the SH-100 or SH-100B offer more than the others.

Art, thanks for your response. I was initially interested in SM-60F, but concluded (possibly incorrectly) that in 3.5x4.5-meter room wider coverage is preferable. I also would like a wider sweet spot. Which is why I am interested in SH100B and SM-96.
