"Finally, is it true that one has to use a video player to display the DVD-A tracks in order to select them?"Hmmm ... an interesting question, and one that hasn't been asked before. Yes, it's true. You simply cannot listen to DVD-A without a TV. The DVD-A/ITU spec calls for a large RPTV placed between the front speakers just for this purpose so that the menus are more easily visible. Also, thae TV has to be on at all times - apparently the 15Khz flyback tone is used as part of the audible watermarking scheme, and player will not play protected discs unless it detects this tone.
Cheers,
Paul.
Follow Ups:
I have been listening to a whole range of DVDAs in full resolution without the telly on at all.
Paul was using exaggeration to make a point.A number of us have been saying for some time that there are only a handful of troublesome discs requiring TV for playback.
Regards,
to play any of them in MC.
did you need the telly initially to set up default settings or anything else?
