I see a pair of Grado RS2s for sale through a website for $269.00. Seems like a killer deal, think these retail for $495.00. I don't want to go separate headphone amp. Would this be overkill, waste of money to use these headphones with built in headphone jack on Rogue Cronus integrated amp? How does it compare to the battery operated Grado headphone amp. Would I be better off with Grado 60i,80i, etc? Gerald.

Unless the Rogue has a problem with the Grado's 32 ohm impedence, they should work fine. Some tube amps have trouble with low impedences. I would check with Rogue or your dealer on this. If the Rogue headphone jack has an overly warm sound, it may not be the best match either, depending on your source and taste. I drive my RS-2's with the headphone jack of an old NAD 701 Receiver and I think they sound great. The NAD is a bit unusual though, not many headphone jacks on any receivers sound this good. I have tried several headphone amps, including Grado's own, I would bet your Rogue will sound as good or better than it. (My NAD sounds a lot better than the Grado headphone amp.) I also own Grado SR-80's and the RS-2's are in another league-much better clarity, resolution and spaciousness. If you can get them new for $270, that is a great deal.
Some head phone amp can't drive properly Grado this reason.
btw, RS2 is a very nice cans.
Grados are easy to drive. Have you listened to them and compared them with other headphones? I would recommend doing so before purchasing. Grados are not for everyone, and they are not my favorite headphones in that price range.

My experience is that Grados are easy to drive to an acceptable level (sometimes even a very good level) of performance with almost any headphone amp. But until you drive them with an amp that has very low output impedance, you may not find out just how good their bass performance can be. Headphone amps that I know have ultra-low output impedance are made by Meier Audio, Musical Fidelity, - and Benchmark too, if I recall correctly.
