When I was given these headphones a short while ago I was less than impressed when I opened the 2 inch high box, the contents looked to be something of a product of stoneage design ,very little in the way of padding on the headband and after wearing them for a short while it was evident that very little had been spent on the earpads themselves ,I contacted Grado's U.K. distributer and ordered the earpads from the sr60 in order to make the headphones wearable(1/2 hour in the original pads can only be likened to having your ears sandpapered). Now it was time for some serious listening. At first listen I was not impressed the sound being closed in and lacking in dynamic range ,running in was required and I'm glad to say it worked a treat ,these cans really sing ,deep bass flows into your head with speed and tunefulness vocals are clear and expressive treble is never harsh or agressive but always accurate .Should you buy these cans ?thats a different matter .I find it hard to believe that there aren't headphone manufacturers that can achieve this level of sound quality AND give the listener some level of confort .

pj,
i was under the impression that the newer grados had the nicer earpads. the first improvement i knew of was to buy sennheiser earpad replacements intended for hd414 'phones (cant get into calling them 'cans').
i have the 60s, ------nice. my yellow sennheiser pads are soooooo pretty! anyway, they are exceedingly comfy, as much so as the larger phones made by senn back when orig 414s were avail. cant remember the model (?424s?), even tho i had a pair.
as for the cord, grado makes a hi grade extension cable for not a lot of money.
thanx for the review, its always good to see how someone veiws similar products.
Nince review. If I recall the MF A3 (or 300) does not have a HP output. Did you use a HP out from the CD player?
I ve had the SR 80's for quite some time and I'm happy with their sound quality. Ear comfort is so/so. I never contacted Grado about replacement earpads, though. That might be a good thing to do.I also have AKG K 240 Headphones- They were less than $100 if I remember correctly- I got 'em about five years ago. I think they sound just as good as the Grados, perhaps better. Maybe I should try and do a little comparison testing though to confirm that.
Hi - I have the SR60s and I agree: They ARE uncomfortable. They do, however, sound GREAT! I should also mention two things. 1) that a small part on my headphones broke and Grado sent me a replacement piece for free! and 2) because of the open-can design of these headphones (SR80s too), my wife can hear them sitting 15ft away from me when I listen to rock music at a fairly decent level.I have to agree with your conclusion - there must be headphones that sound as amazing and are comfortable too. But then again - I have the SR60s for the past 6+ years and I haven't been able to replace them with another pair retailing for the same price.
So...as it goes...YMMV.
cheers, Chr3is
Ditto. I recently bought a pair of the SR60's and they are superb sounding and VERY comfortable. Very smooth, full and musical sound by the way. I saw a pair of the SR125's at the dealer when I bought them and they had the older hard foam ear pieces and they were very uncomfortable. Anyone out there that reads this that has the older, harder foam type get a pair of the new foam pieces that now come with the SR60's, they are excellent. $10 a pair of I am not mistaken. Thanks for the review pjrp, glad you are enjoying them.

you may be able to get these from sennheiser, usa in burbank, california. they will be verrry cost effective this way, i usggest buying an extra pair and keep them in a jar tor prevent deterioration (understand, i live in LA). the $10, price is fine if you can get them from your grado dealer (and they are black, not yellow like senns).
verrrrrrrry comfy!
