Totally by accident, I happened upon last night's episode at the very beginning, and watched the whole thing. Great stuff, although they could've cut the hip-hop segment in half. While my wife was doing the dishes, I had a great time pointing out the various mics/speakers/tape recorders - "That's a vintage Neumann tube, that's a U47, there's an Altec 604, there's a Studer 24-track, that's a ... Of course, she asked: "What console is that?" "I think it's an API, but I'm not that good at consoles." And then there was a closed-loop multitrack deck which was either a 3M or a Stephens. I was having great fun! The segment on George Martin and The Beatles was excellent!Gotta go buy some more VHS tapes today.

Well, it's a documentary, which means that arbitrarily dismissing the profound impact that hip-hop has had on popular music and the industry as a whole would be really bad filmmaking.
I didn't say, or even suggest, that hip-hop should have been dismissed in the film. I just said it was too long.
:)
Fair enough.
"Gotta go buy some more VHS tapes today."
As mentioned in opening post, I'm prehistoric as fas as video viewing. I do have a 10 year old Pany plasma which still delivers great color and decent black levels.
It's on a roll away, which then gets positioned between the speakers on movie nights. Plug the audio outs into the amp, bump the gain on the REL sub-voila! Psuedo home theater.
I have a perfectly fine VHS deck in the closet. Please send a tape so I can record the series, and go to bed at 9:00 PM. Gracias
