Hi everyone. Just as an idea - what would you say to P2P renting of hi-fi & hi-end audio? Sounds interesting to me, as many of audio geeks (like my husband) have devices they won't use but won't part with either. Lending them for some cash and renting from others something that you have never tried before... Could you be interested? Any pros and cons? Any ideas welcome! Thanks.

Sometimes, I just like to know whom I might be dealing with! ;-)
Of coarse if you don't mind :)
She seems to hint that she is asking on behalf of her husband the audiophile hoarder (whose name is probably "Vasianya"?).She obviously wants to hijack her husband's audio gear. It might be that she has already hijacked his personal computer.

...of course:-)
Better you than me.

Cables? Maybe.Turntables and tube gear? No way.
Solid-state gear, digital gear, speakers? Not much safer than turntables or tube gear.
Would you trust a stranger to transport your precious gear in the trunk of a vehicle or up and down a flight of stairs? I probably wouldn't.
How many people know or care about proper turn on/shut down procedures for audio gear? How many people know or care about the best way to uncrate, set up, and repackage heavy or bulky amps or speakers?
The more one thinks about it, the more ridiculous your idea seems. I don't even let house guests mess with my audio gear, so why would I even think about handing the same stuff over to an unsupervised stranger in a strange facility?

Rent away!
Hint: when they come to reclaim their items -simply ignore them!
I want the Samsung Giga 1,600W Speaker System (but only if it's not powered by the same Lithium battery technology used in their exploding smartphones).

not a bad idea. There is a dealer/retailer in Dallas TX that will set up various gear in your home for trial. Or, put you in touch w/ one of their
customers' whom sponsors an in-home demo (for a certain brand of gear).
just waiting for that to begin.
You can smell them from here.

So many issues, liability, credit card fraud, even local only with no shipping. What if the gear fails while on loan? What if it doesn't work when first connected by the borrower. Too many potential issues. Risk v reward isn't there.

A lot of things are rented that are more valuable and unreliable than audio equipment--cars for instance.
Is peer to peer so no business framework exists nor will it ever. Totally not worth the hassle for the equipment owner and a little less so for the borrower. I see it as ripe for fraud. Would you let a stranger come to your house and take say a $3K piece of gear with a credit card number or check or a Paypal something or other? Paypal is so pro buyer or in this case renter.
So not worth the hassle, sorry

Car companies are well stocked with lawyers and accountants handling enormous insurance premiums and claims. Not nearly the same situation as Joe Blow renting his tube amp to some dude for a week.

If you ever have been a landlord, you know the answer to your question.
Unless all transactions are local there would be quite a few problems to consider.I would not want to ship to just anybody. I would require a substantial refundable deposit. Shipping and handling costs for heavy or bulky equipment can be quite expensive, and shipping expensive items can be risky in and of itself. All of this, among other things...
Question: Would most husbands dare to ask their wives to "rent out" expensive but unused (or rarely used) household items, jewelry, clothes, shoes, fashion accessories, etc..?

There are no locals in Russia?
Not to you or me.
OK with me.
Going to an important dinner or a crucial job interview? Maybe rent a nice pearl necklace or a ridiculously overpriced handbag? How about a multi-thousand dollar watch? Sounds like a plan. No real shipping issues, insurance can cover any losses.Sounds like such a great idea I bet someone is already doing it. Let's see if I can find one.

Alcoholic, pill popping mother, stripper daughter (over 18) and drug dealing son. I'll need a hotel room as well.
They are plenteous and free for the taking. Simply stand in line at Walmart, act friendly.
haha you got me.. that one made me laugh out loud.
There are probably plenty. They don't tend to advertise.
For years now, married couples have been using the internet to rent each other out to the public at large. A few more baubles and bangles should not matter.
LOL. Maybe in Canada, if you believe the news about the hacked "married dating" website, but my experience has been a lot less ummmm, interesting?
