This is a shame. I never met Wes but I enjoyed his reviews and quoted him often over the years.
It was a great loss when he retired from Stereophile several years ago due to health issues, if I recall correctly. Now he is gone and along with him goes an unusually keen ear and any hope of more of his wonderfully informative and entertaining reviews.
Thank you, Mr. Phillips.
Based in part on his review I bought a Conrad-Johnson CT 5 preamp years ago and his praise (even over his top C-J pre) was exactly right. Thanks, Wes.
Shocked to hear this... One of my SP favorite writers... RIP.
I began my Stereophile subscription in 1993 to the present date. WP was pivotal during the 1990's as I trained my novice Audiophile mind.
Those were the days for sure. A great writer of the Audio press. R.I.P.
Truly sad to hear.
Wes was was one of my faves back when he was actively writing. The other being the late John Potis.
I will spin some James McMurtry and The Heartless Bastards Live In Aught Three tonight in Wes's honor. Wes turned me onto them when doing a follow-up review of the Fisher 500c that you reviewed initially.
Godspeed Wes.......

That sucks. He was one of favorite writers at Stereophile and I respected his ears. Condolences to his family. Godspeed, WP!
One of my favorite writers also. He will be missed.

Wes Phillips RIP. Just heard about Wes. He will be missed. He was one of my favorite all-time writers. Let the eternal music keep playing!
Not unexpected I suppose, but, still, sad.
all the best,
mrh
I really enjoyed his piece about John Lennon. It's not easy to communicate "humanity" in writing, but Wes had that talent in spades. RIP.

Wes was one of the top writers at Stereophile. I'm sorry to hear of his passing.
RIP, Wes.
You'll certainly be missed.
