I have the above receiver and the only way I can get any volume out of the left channel is to turn the balance knob almost all the way over to that side to balance the sound. I then have to turn the volume up. I assume a possible pre amp issue. Is this an economical repair or should I just junk the unit? I realize it is not a very valuable receiver, it's around15-20 years old. Thanks for your input.

Are you sure it's the receiver? Have you switched speaker wires at the back to ensure it doesn't follow the speaker? Tried more than one input also?
