Teac CD player and FM tuner, Spark 20wpc amp and a pair of those Elac speakers that everyone is raving about.
Anything better for a kilo-buck?

How much does the Spark amp cost? Have you heard it? How would you describe its sound?
Have not heard it. It's $350. There's a guy who does youtube reviews on Dayens (search youtube for 'dayens' to find). He says he's going to do a review on it soon.

I'm a big fan of the Heil style tweeter, I'd be really curious how good a system made up of the Emotiva Airmotive 6S powered speakers ($499/pair, 43Hz - 23kHz +/- 1.7dB) paired with a Teac UD-301 DAC ($399 at Crutchfield) would sound. That's $898 which leaves enough left over for interconnects, and although it doesn't count the computer in the cost, who doesn't have a computer these days? If it's too far away from the system add in an Apple TV or Chromecast Audio to stream to the DAC.
My old bedroom system before we moved was under $1000 and I was super happy with it. It was a Creek 4330 with a pair of Boston VRM-60. I had a pogoplug running squeezebox server and squeezeplay hooked up to the DAC of the week (latest was a $5 ebay special that I could never find again that sounded better than my Dragonfly v2 DAC) Of course with money to burn on a equipment rack, speaker stands and a decent power conditioner which is often overlooked in these type of systems.
Think the Elac's are the contenders for inexpensive speakers, but I'd pair them with the NAD 3020 or maybe the PS Sprout. Don't believe you'd need a DAC, as there seems to be one in each, if a computer is source. Bluetooth too. And the PS has a phonostage if you want to add a TT later. Review below. And an ELAC review as well as a modded version review...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3XlZ71yn_I

I think I will soon have NAD 316BEE and Elac B6. Have a Toshiba laptop and Dragonfly DAC. Presently playing through Tivoli radio. Very good. I think B6 will sound like an older brother of Tivoli.
Cheers

Don't forget the HD full of lossless files. That's the hard part that take lots of hours.
