Are you powering the 2nd voice coils on your 3.5s? I am driving my 2nd voice coils with a pair of 300 watt amps and it definitely helps the bottom end.
Also, I have a separate input setting on my Emo XMC-1 prepro that uses its 11 band parametric EQs to boost the bottom end by 3-6 db and the top end by 2-3 db. I use this input when I expect to be listening late at night at lower volumes. It works a treat to "wake 'em up", perhaps you could try something similar??

I haven't powered the 2nd voice coil or tried to. It sounds pretty good without it. I might try to do a software EQ to see if that helps at low volumes . thanks for the idea. I am usually a purist but it couldn't hurt to try.
There is nothing "non-purst" about using all the capabilities of your speakers. As you probably know, you -3db down point will improve from ~35Hz to ~22Hz, a pretty big improvement. You simply need 2 more channels of amplification, a pair of speaker cables, and a crossover to channel the lowest octaves to the extra amps.
I did this about a year ago, after having the speakers for 6 years, and I really wish I had done it sooner, there is no downside to this tweak...

I was referring to the EQ and purism. I would think about adding an extra amp to fully get what the Ref are capable of to be a good idea. Money is stopping me (or lack of right now), that seems like it would do wonders going down to 22, I might ask some questions about that when the time comes.
In terms of the EQ, I use a modified sonos connect with upgraded digital outs and a low noise power supply, I will fiddle with the Sonos EQ tonight if I have a chance. That seems interesting.
At pretty decent levels the Ref 3.5 literally blow my mind. I think I will give the EQ a shot for nighttime listening. Also noticed at really high levels where the frames of my house vibrate the Gallos are top notch so I am keeping them for awhile, so a second amplifier for the 2nd voice coil on the woofer component might be an upgrade looking into.
Thanks again for the EQ idea.
That let you have several parametric eqs or a "graphic" EQ.
I use the parametric EQ plug ins to "help" bad recordings and do low level listening loudness compensation. I have not noticed any negative impact o the SQ. It is fun to fiddle with as well.
thanks but for PC I use Linux only, I will continue to fiddle.... :)
