Audio Shows happen because a promoter decides that they can make money running a show in a given locale. Or, in the case of nonprofit promoters relying upon volunteer labor, not lose money.
The key, at least in historical terms, is for the locale to have a sufficiently large number of profitable audio dealers who will rent the ballrooms and large suites that "anchor" a show. Once the mega-spaces are rented, the risks are lowered and the pump has been primed.
There was a Home Entertainment Show in Miami I am guessing nearly 20 years ago--1997? I think it fair to say it was not a success, and AFAIK it was never attempted again.
I also think that the framing of your question indicates that you don't know a huge amount about the ultra-rich. Not that I do, either, but... ultra-rich people who are also household names and or faces usually do not go kicking tires in public. Let's say a super-rich guy wants a stereo system for his new beach cottage. He is not likely to go to an audio dealer and ask for a demo.
He is likely to have had dealing with someone in the past, whether an architect, a lifestyle consultant, or an interior decorator, and the rich person will tell that person to network and research. That person may very well find out that one of their professional contacts had dealings with a CEDIA member who has worked here there and everywhere, and that person gets the job, and he trades off with dealer friends to get a specific brand, if the client must have (CMH) it.
So, paradoxically, the more exclusive an area, the less likely an audio show is to happen. IMHO.
Nobody has even tried a real audio show in Boston, and I can see why.
Hotels are about as expensive as NYC, no really big audio dealers (at least measured on a national scale), many people are too busy with other things, and the ultra-rich stay in the western suburbs and don't come back in on weekends, except for the Symphony.

Follow Ups:
Many dealers in a reasonable radius.
2/3 of the country within a 2hr plane ride, and 20mm people within a 300 mile drive.
Lots of cheap space and a non union workforce.
The Axpona show was barely publicized unfortunately and deemed unsuccessful.
Oh Well.
Maybe it wasn't such a bomb after all?
AXPONA site mentions a show in Chicago 4/15-17 2016
Nothing about Atlanta
Web search brings up no mention of an audio show in Atlanta scheduled for next spring.
Where and When ?
Thanks.
I, too, am perplexed about ATL as well. This city has quite a concentration of wealth, yet, cannot/will not sustain an Audio market???
Most aren't interested in Audio anymore, nothing to do with wealth ...

A wealth-base, or people w/ disposable income, sets the attraction for B&M operations. Then comes interest. I can remember not too long ago that there were several operations in the greater ATL. A damn shame...
The Stereophile Miami Audio show was held in Doral , the year was 94 and to my knowledge it was a success , Maybe John can confirm or not. IMO , the audio scene in so fl is practically dead , well , compared to 30 yrs ago , huge demographic change over the years ...
Tampa or Orlando would be far more suitable for such a show ....

Meh. I was hoping I had missed it.
So I guess it's up to me then to start one. I'm sure I'm not the first guy to want to do something like that here. I may be able to appeal to the audiophiles in the local TV community and get a few kicker mentions on the local news shows. Maybe get the three or four local stores to bring some porno level gear and do the whole thing as a non profit to promote vinyl.
Or I my find out why no one has done it since 1997. Maybe without a profit motive and just for the love of the hobby I can make something happen.
Try kick starter , go for it ....... :)
I worked in Spanish TV for 20 years. If anyone knows how to do things that normally cost a million dollars for 20 bucks it's me. Lol.
I'm actually working on a scifi convention in Hialeah, FL (the secret geekiest city in Florida) but once I'm done with that, I may just go for it.
go for it- MannyE!
