A night at the symphony is probably out, unless it's something I really want to hear.
So, sound quality is not a priority.
Follow Ups:
As both a jazz and classical musician, I appreciate both styles, as well as others, but I don't want to spend 3-4 hours, of the three evenings I'll have, going to/listening to something I've already heard or don't care to hear. As I said, I'd be interested in touring the facilities. Touring the Walt Disney concert hall and facilities in L.A. last Fall was very fun and useful, and it would be great to tour SF's facilities. I'm really more of an audio/acoustics guy than a "gotta go hear the symphony" guy.On the other hand, next time I'm in Vienna...

You might enjoy seeing the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, it has the largest bass-traps I have seen, they have tunnels through them to allow people to enter the ground floor area.
Also noteworthy is the Davies Symphony Hall for its elaborate ceiling and side wall designs.
Hopefully others can comment further.
"it has the largest bass-traps I have seen, they have tunnels through them"
That 'sounds' cool. TY
:)
IMO the SF Jazz Center Minor hall is a very well done room with knowledgable sound reinforcement technicians. One look at the smaller mostly glass Joe Henderson room looks problematic but it's not at all.
My strongest recommendation would be for Cecile McLorin Salvant who's last recording doesn't begin to reach the unity of the current group. Also Bassist Christian McBride and drummer Brian Blade will be backing Chick Corea (almost sold out).
I'm not sure if they're still doing their demonstration of their Constellation reverberation control system/software but Meyer Sound Labs on 2832 San Pablo Ave in Berkeley would be worth looking into. They did the reinforcement for Yoshi's unfortunately Yoshi's sound people seem to have their own method for supporting the room, sad.
Outside lands begins next weekend and in beginning of October the Bay Area opens with the free Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival then Neil Young's Bridge School concerts on the 24-25th.
I knew John Meyer back in the day, but haven't talked with him for over 20 years. I am planning to see if I can get a tour of their facilities, and thanks for the reminder about the Constellation system.
Also, I'll see if I can get some access to the SF Jazz Center - that sounds very intriguing. Thanks.
:)
...if you get a Meyer tour scheduled, let me know and I'll come over and go with you.And if you have time, you might enjoy the sound treatment in my room (I'm about 15 minutes east of Berkeley).

That sounds great. But, you do know that I'm a conservative, right? LOL
:)
...I'd keep that under your hat in Berkeley ;-)
Will I need to show my papers?
Hey, I've been to Beserkeley. I get it. Hot chicks are a main attraction.
;)
...fortunately, they are liberal...
