My package was 35 minutes from my house last night. Rather than deliver it today they're going to sit on it till Tuesday so no one gets better service that they pay for.

I try not to fall into the trap of watching the online tracking info like a hawk. Make a note of the declared delivery date, turn aside, and wait.
You can go to the hub during "Will Call" hours to get it.
Don't get my going now, I hate them with a passion, they really suck bad.

It is cheap and packages most often arrive looking like they were not shipped. I have had claims with UPS were all they claimed was that the "shock in their system was greater than my packaging could take." I guess this means that some item fall off the conveyor belts and fall seven feet.
European manufacturers always have to revise their packing to ship to the USA.

Had a cross-country ground shipment from GIK initially scheduled on UPS tracking for delivery today, reflecting normal shipping time. Two days ago, tracking indicated "Early Delivery", and it was delivered here late yesterday afternoon.

If the disappointments were logged amongst the major carriers, I think the differences amongst them would be too small to choose one or avoid one.
Or in other words, in a parallel universe, someone initiated a "FedEx Sucks" or "USPS Sucks" thread on Audio Asylum.....
Actually, I received a package from an unnamed carrier today that I ordered this morning all the way from KY 2 hours early. Awesome, but no logos anywhere.
Had a Fed Ex delivery of a tubed amp scheduled for Tuesday. It arrived at
the Fed Ex facility in the neighboring 'burg this morning. They went ahead
and delivered today even though the package was clearly marked "Tuesday".
We always have a chocolate pumpkin cupcake or some other pastry at the
ready for the delivery person when they show. They seem to like that.
Another great weekend on the way!

Stop buying so much crap through the mail.
I've received packages though UPS a day early.
The issue is prioritization. If you're loading a truck and you're responsible for making sure all packages due on that day are delivered, then when you see a package due at a later date, you set it aside. Those guys are all monitored every minute of every day. Why would anyone chance their bonus or their yearly review to deliver your package a day early? Nobody gets paid extra for an early delivery, but they do get dinged when a package arrives late.
Received several packages that had clear footprints on them. Obviously they choose to use packages on the bottom as step stools to get to the top of the stack. Not cool.
The package is the size of a large book.
I've been shipping/receiving from UPS for 35 years, yes, they hold packages.

Don't feel so bad. I had purchased a pair of speakers. Fedex deliverd one and two days later I received the second one.The boxes where shipped at the same time and labeled 1 of 2 and 2 of 2. You are correct they do hold packages !
Laughing...
They're under no obligation to deliver your package earlier than the service that was paid for.
No one said they're obligated.
But when you have it and you sit on it for days... that's just dumb. And it's not like it got here quick anyway - took over a week.

If they're not obligated then why do you say they suck? If they delivered the package late they might warrant the suck label. Just giving you a hard time but I fail to see how they suck based on your post. ;-)
UPS, Fedex et al have rules that have to apply to everyone. Can you imagine the bedlam if everyone had their personal requests fulfilled. If the service doesn't please you, you can always get upgraded service, or pick it up yourself.
the post office. Way cheaper than UPS especially on smaller things and things that don't need high dollar insurance. I just sent a TT to the Bronx and it was 40% less via USPS and 3-4 days quicker. The post office has mostly dropped parcel post and gives priority rates cheap now when you package things yourself vs using the flat rate boxes which are good too.
A few years ago Popular Mechanics tested the big three by putting accelerometers in packages and sending them. USPS was the clear winner followed by UPS then FedEx so the are kindest to your packages too.

This message has been moved to a more appropriate venue .
As I sit by the door awaiting a UPS delivery of a VPI Prime I think back that each time I arrange for home delivery I have made a deal with the devil. Sorry thing is I still can't play a blues riff worth a damn!
Typically the driver runs up the sidewalk, knocks and immediately runs back to his truck leaving a pre-printed door tag. I have many times run to the door only to see the truck driving down the street a block away.
The drivers do not even wait for a home owner to come to the door. UPS, not exactly known for delivery, better at requesting I make "other arrangements". From Harry and Tonto: "Capitalist Bastards!", Ha!.
I left a big note on the door written in black felt marker on legal sheet - it said 'UPS - I AM HOME, PLEASE RING BELL'.
I was NOT listening to music, watching tv, taking a shower, etc, I was waiting for the package.
I heard the truck drive up and away and ran to the door to find the yellow 'we tried to deliver' sticker.
Idiot.

I had an 80 pound amp riding around on the truck for 2 weeks until I had UPS trace it, too heavy for those panzies I guess.
"Panzies," like faggots and sissies, is offensive, and does not belong here.

It happens ... several weeks ago.FedX delivered a package of mine to a US Post Office that was 35 minutes away from me. They sent it to another state for sorting ... eventually making it's way back to me ... after the weekend ofcourse. Just the way bureaucracies work IMHO.
On a more positive note though ... I've had 1000's of packages delivered/mailed by the US Postal service ... only 2 were lost.

I saw about 20 construction guys fixing a 10 inch pot hole on the street recently.
nice job if you can get it.
Your Fedex experience was sorting/shipping process. UPS will NOT DELIVER A PACKAGE THEY HAVE READY FOR DELIVERY if it means you get it sooner than usual. They will SIT ON IT.
In 35 years I have NEVER gotten a UPS package one day earlier than scheduled. Fedex it happens now and then.

I don't know what the hell those USPS mail sorters are smoking but I am on the East Coast and I had a package go from Florida to San Diego, then to the East Coast. Their excuse was "delayed" instead of Mr. Mail sorter is smoking something that smells funny.
