For me, the answer is yes, up to a point. I find that booze makes the listening experience, for lack a better word, more colorful (if probably a lot less accurate). And, also, it depends on whether I'm listening solo or with others. Listening with other people tends to make me even more receptive--probably not surprising, given the nature of social interaction. But there reaches a point, at least for me, when the fundamentally depressive nature of booze kicks in, and music becomes simply less enjoyable. What do you think?

All my records are out of order! Definitely started with some classical music, but haven't gotten to the end of it yet.
Yes, if and only if the alcohol is:
Tullamore Dew, handcrafted Old Havanal congnac, dry martini with two twists, Pinch, Woodford Reserve or Basil Hayden, even Barfoot malbec.
In moderation, of course.

I often have a cocktail or two while listening from my comfy chair. Alcohol not used/abused to enhance my listening experience, but simply to indulge in multiple, simultaneous, enjoyable sensory stimuli. Smell, taste, touch, hear. Sight gets neglected though as lights are very dim/off. More sight from the mind rather than eyes. (Episode where George Costanza is eating a sandwich in bed while having sex and watching a ball game ;^)
Pot's a good mellow additive to a good audio experience...
Alcohol makes the soundstage bigger and more 3D for me.

with or without music.
Yep, Especially when women are present .... :)
Hi cleaning rcas with alcohol has resulted almost always in better sound.
Even if i had better result with a stain remover (i.e. trichloroethylene) but the vapours are both toxic and unbereable.
Kind regards,

A little to take the edge of the day off can enhance my enjoyment but, even a bit more, and it really distracts from the experience.
It takes a bit of time between drinks to find exactly where that fine line is. Usually 1-2 T T's is just right.

Hi Quint, maybe you should keep it down to 1 16 ounce ice cold can of Narragansett and crush it with one hand after listening to a thrilling John Williams soundtrack on your boat....Mark Korda

I find it the perfect accompaniment to music, but only in moderation (one or two glasses of wine or maybe one glass of bourbon) for me though. Any more than that and it dulls my senses.

there was a time when it enhanced ALL of my experiences before it eventually overwhelmed them.
Such is life.
Booze certainly seems to be the most popular tweak around these parts.
In that spirit whatever - works, works!

I'm glad you were able to overcome it. I tread a fine line sometimes, and it can be a mighty slippery slope.
But the surprising turn of events has resulted in more enjoyment of music and life without!

alcohol convinces me and brings me to the logical and clearly rational conclusion that I am a god amongst mere men! also I'm an alcoholic, meaning I have to have a few drinks a day to feel right.tobacco on the other hand, the pipe tobacco (yes old man pipes your grandfather would smoke) bring me to this serene surreal state of mind when I listen, just this afternoon I was listening to Steve Roach & Robert Rich and their album "Soma". This is a pretty poor quality audio youtube clip of one of their tracks on that album, however the atmospheric qualities are really enhanced by hypnotic swirling pungent tobacco smoke through the air in my listening room.
enjoy the weekend, what's left of it :)

You only put tobacco in that pipe to listen to music? I had an Audiophile friend of mine when I lived in Miami he swear that cannabis made his listening experience so much better, I like some fine German beer or Belgian beer or some wine and I'm good.

Laughing...
Alcohol is a depressant, NOT, a stimulant.

Amazing how the stuff works.

One drink goes right to my fingers, and makes them fumbly.

I have never experienced alcohol being depressive in any way, shape or form.

... A bright sunny day here, thanks.
We have had some rain and inclement weather but nothing bad.
To the North of us was bad as it was to the South... but nothing within a 100 clicks of us.
I have place in the Hunter Valley where my sister resides and she got minor flooding, blackouts and wind damage. But thankfully nothing terribly serious.
Sydney copped a hammering as well.
Thanks for the concern but all is beer and skittles up here. (craft beer of course lol)
Oh, I saw a nice penthouse for sale down your way. Then I realized, why on earth would I be looking at a place in Melbourne?
Cheers mate.

I'm with you on this perspective. I almost never drink anymore unless I'm listening to music alone, but sometimes with an audio friend. Also, all things in moderation. Too much and it just puts me to sleep.
Friday night champagne or cabernet is common fare for me.
Dean Martin used to say that he felt sorry for anyone who did not drink, because the way he felt when he woke up in the morning was the best he'd ever feel all day long (if he did not drink).Drinking doesn't help me at all, at least not in the musical context, but there are many others who almost seem to swear by it. Others will say that alcohol dulls their sense of hearing.
